Chapter 4 - The First Official Day

Daphne wakes before me. "Psst Lydia wake up. It's time for school." She said trying to wake

 me up. I lightly groans. "Come on Lydia we can't be late for breakfast." She continued softly. 

I rub my eyes and sit up in bed. "Why do we have to be up so early?" I said in my morning voice. She laughs, "Lydia it's 10 am! That's early to you?" I smile at Daphne seeing that she likes to joke around.

"Personally I would like to wake up at 3 pm thank you very much." I say jokingly. We both laugh. I lightly get up, and rub my eyes, making it clearer to see. I stood up, put on my slippers and went into the bathroom. The bathroom was green and white. Wow Hogwarts sure does remind you what house you're in. I came out and saw Daphne already changed. She put her book down, and went into the bathroom.  We finished getting  and left our dorms. We finished eating and talked. We heard Dumbledore give his speech. I don't know what about since I space out mid-way, but then I felt someone nudge me. I saw Daphne standing up all ready to go. I took the hint, and grabbed my stuff. 

As Daphne and I were walking in the halls. We ran into Draco. "Well well well. Look who it is. Lydia Potter. I thought you would be walking with your brother instead of this weirdo. Oh! wait! I forgot you two got separated." Draco said laughing with Goyle and Crabbe. "Shut up Malfoy."

 Everyone turned around to see my brown haired brother. "Aweee look it's Lydia's brother!! She's such a baby she needs her brother to save her. HAHA" Draco said laughing while walking away. "Are you okay Lydia?" I nod, "I haven't seen you since yesterday how have you  been?" He looks behind him. There were two kids. One with bright red hair, which I recognized was Ron's, and Hermione's bushy hair. "It's been quite nice, but I've been a third wheel for those two." He whispered the last part. I chuckle which put a smile on hi face. "Come on Harry we're going to be late for Herbology!" I heard Hermione shout for Harry. He gives me a sad look. I took the hint, and  gave him a hug. He hugged me back, then let go. He walked away disappearing into the crowd. I look at Daphne to see her smiling at Harry. I gave her a smug smirk. "Shut up Lyd!!" She hit me playfully causing me to giggle. We continued walking to class in silence until she broke the silence with a question. "How do you know Draco?" She asks, I could feel my blood start to boil. I may seem sweet to people, but really I have anger issues. They don't get triggered easily, but Draco changes that."Oh my gosh don't get me started. I hate Draco. He's such an evil git!" Daphne started laughing. "Is that so? You should really tell him that." I start laughing with her. After awhile of walking and talking we finally made it to Professor Snape's class whoever that may be. 

We entered the room, and saw a tall man with short, messy hair. He was wearing all black, and looked at me with a straight face. "Miss Potter and Miss Greengrass  what a delight seeing you. I see you decided to come to class." I was confused as to why he said such things until I looked up at the clock noticing we were a few minutes later. Goodness Merlin! It was the first day, and I was already late! Daphne nudged me causing me to get back to reality. She whispered to me, "I'll sit next to Pansy, so she can't insult you." I followed her eyes to see a short girl with her brown hair in a ponytail. She was prettier than me. I nodded, and looked up to see Snape staring at me. "Well? Why don't you sit down Miss Potter?" I looked for another seat, noticing there was one last one next to Draco. I sat down next to him noticing Daphne had already sat down. I was above her. She looked back at me with a sympathetic smile. I returned it. I then looked back at Snape noticing he started teaching. "Lydie Loser was late on the first day, what a shame." I heard someone whisper to me. I looked on my right two see a platinum blonde boy. Of course, Sir Draco just HAD to annoy me right now. I rolled my eyes, and said, "Oh it was you, I thought I smelt a rat." I chuckle turning my head back to Snape. I could feel how angry Draco had felt. Just imagining how angry he was made me smile. "Funny Potter, why don't you go cry to your mummy. Oh that's right she's dead!" My heart stopped, my blood started to boil. How did he know about my mum? I didn't let that settle. I felt myself start to get really mad. I was about to start my exercises to control my anger, but just before I could I quickly got up, and pushed Draco's books of the desk. "DON'T YOU DARE SPEAK ABOUT MY MOTHER LIKE THAT!" I shouted at him. Snape quickly reacted saying, "Malfoy and Potter detention now!" He said it without emotion, but I could see it in his eye he was upset I interrupted him. "That's not fair professor! You heard Lydia. She said Malfoy was talking about her mum!" He quickly approached her desk. Putting his hands down on the desk practically slamming them. "Detention." He said sternly. She got up facing me and Draco.  I gave her a sad look. We walked towards the door, and out of the class. "I can't believe you got me detention!" Draco starts as soon as we leave the classroom. I roll my eyes, "This wouldn't be like this if you didn't talk about my mum like that!" I quickly spat. He looked at me with an annoyed look. I simply looked at Daphne to see her starring at her feet. I grabbed her hand for reassurance. She looked up at me, and I smile. The three of us walked to Professor McGonagall's office. Because according to Draco, that's where first year's had their detentions. "How do you know that?" He smacked his forehead. "Maybe, if you were paying any attention during Dumbledore's speech, you would know!" He scowled, I roll my eyes. I usually was a very kind person to everyone, but I could already tell Draco was never gonna be on my good side. Especially if they insult my mother. We all entered McGonagall's office.  "Good morning students. What're you here for?" Draco puts his hands behind his back. "We're here for detention Professor." She raised her eyebrows hearing this. "Getting detention on the first day of school? That's a very foolish thing to do, but since it's the first day I will cut you slack. For the mean time please have a seat." She directed us to three seats next to each other. This was unbelievable. Draco Malfoy got me detention on the FIRST day of school. I knew partly it was my fault for reacting that way, but if he didn't act so childish we wouldn't be in this situation. I sat down after Daphne, and Draco next. She gave us three books each. 

"I will come back in a few hours. You better have finished those books by the time I get back." McGonagall left the room. Draco pushed his books away, then put his feet on the desk, while his hands were behind his head, his body was leaning backwards. "Finish it for me Potter." I look back at him, "No! You finish it yourself Malfoy!" I scowled. He looked at me annoyed, "No!" I rolled my eyes, and went back to reading the first book. 'The story of the three brothers'? I opened the book, and immediately started reading it. It was pretty intriguing. I looked away for a second noticing Draco reading his books. He listened to me. Thank Merlin! I went back to my story.  

---------------------------------------- 2 Hours Later ------------------------------------

"Alright you three. I hope you have learnt your lessons-" McGonagall came in and gave us three pieces of parchment each. "-You will write essay's on the three books you read, and turn them into me. The deadline is three days. You may now leave."   The three of us got up, and left her office. I noticed Draco was already on his way to the Great Hall for lunch. Daphne and I followed him in, and sat down at the end of the table, while he went up to meet up with his friends. Daphne and I started eating, and talking. She mostly talked about her love life. I sat, and listened. "What about you? Have you ever had a boyfriend?" I tense up at this question. Guessing that she might've noticed she said softly, "Hey it's okay. You'll find the right one." She gives me a small smile. The rest of the day was just a blur. Finished eating. Going to class. Break. Going to class again. Eating dinner. Off to our dorms. We entered the common room, and I saw a boy with blackish brownish hair. He got up, and approached me. "Hi Daphne." He says. His voice was pretty deep. "Hey Adrian." She said cheerfully, then she looks at me. "Lydia this is Adrian Pucey." 

I look up into his dark brown eyes, and he looked down at me. I was pretty short for a first year. "Well nice to meet you Lydia." He put his hand out for me to shake. I shook his hand, "Lydia Potter." He looked at me confused. "My full name is Lydia Potter." He nods smiling at me. We then let go of the shake. We left the common room, and went into our dorms. When we walked in she looked at me with a smug smile. "What?" She giggles, "You guys are definitely gonna be best friends." I was glad she didn't say boyfriend. Don't get me wrong he look very nice, but he's just not my type. We both got ready for bed, and went to bed. The first day was nice except the detention. I already like my friends. I miss my mum though. I hope she's watching over me. If she is..."I love you mum." I whispered to myself. A lot. I said in my head.
