At the end of Chapter 11: The next morning was in chaos. She was running late and she hated to be late or having to rush. She would have to put off calling her sister Leyla until that evening. It had been a slow day at the bookstore so she was able to get caught up on a lot of things. She was just locking up when her phone pinged. "Sanem? I'm home. Please call me." Before she had walked the short distance home, Leyla had called her again. Sanem answered with, "Hello, sister. How are you?" Leyla responded, "Sanem, Can is home."

When Can arrived backhome in Istanbul, everything hit him. The reality of Sanem's absence was almostmore than he could bear. In the lonely silence of his house, his mind wasracing as to what to do. For the first time in his life, he felt helpless andlike he deserved all that he was feeling. The objective of the trip was to getsome peace of mind and some calm back in his heart. Now the only thing thatwould bring calmness to his heart was her.
Sanem. I think I just might have blown my chance with her and I don't blame her at all. Of course, she wasn't going to listen to me. Why should she? I didn't give her a chance to speak at all. I formed my opinion of what she did by looking only against my standards. How did I get to the point of being so black and white, seeing only what I wanted to see? I hurt her and I knew it. I knew it when I was doing it and still couldn't stop myself. I won't let this be the end. I can't. I love her more that I love myself so I'm prepared to do whatever it takes.
He knew Emre and Leyla would be home soon. He had to make a couple of phone calls before he got in touch with them. He looked up Mr. Volkan, an old friend, and set up a meeting with him. If anybody could find Sanem, it was him.
He called Sanem's number but the call was refused again, after the first ring. So, he sent a text: "I know I don't deserve it, but please give me another chance. Please."
Emre came in the door of Can's house and grabbed him in a big bear hug. "Man, it's good to see you!" Emre yelled. "Tell me all about your trip while I get us a drink."
"Not much to tell really," Can replied, "Most of the trip was spent trying to get YOU to tell me where Sanem is. Don't think I've forgotten about it, brother."
Emre stiffened and replied, "Look, Can, I was under the impression that you two were going your separate ways and starting a new life. So, why did her actions effect you so much?"
Can put his drink down on a shelf and walked out to the garden. He looked at the spot where Sanem sat that night, waiting for him to come home so she could confess her love for him. Thinking of that night and how happy he was then crushed his heart and soul.
He responded. "Emre, what I did to Sanem was wrong. I knew it but I couldn't seem to stop. I've never loved anyone like that before and thought she was more than human. Someone without mistakes and faults. Someone I considered equal to my unrealistic standards. I've learned a lot in the past seven months. The main thing that nobody is perfect. And why would we even want them to be? I have the biggest flaw of all in not being able to forgive. I'm hoping to have the chance to show Sanem I've changed, and I will spend the rest of my life begging her forgiveness."
Emre felt for his brother and all that he was going through. But he also knew Sanem did what she knew she had to do. He had to respect her and the decision she had made. If Can was going to find Sanem, he would have to do it on his own without Emre's help. He had a feeling that was just what Can would do.
Can's meeting with Mr. Volkan was short since he had very little information other than Sanem's name and a physical description to give him. Mr. Volkan did ask for her phone number so he could possibly check phone records. Can gave that to him.
He told Mr. Volkan that Sanem had resigned from the agency on May 21. No one in their office had seen or heard from her since. Her family and Emre had to know where she was but had refused to tell him. Mr. Volkan asked Can if he could remember her saying anything about a place she really wanted to visit or move to. Can thought about his question then replied that the only place Sanem had ever talked about going to was the Galapagos Islands.
Could that be where she had gone?
They decided Mr. Volkan would start there and see what he could find. Can told him he wanted to be informed of any information he found, no matter how small it might seem to be.
Can felt like finding Sanem would take a lot of work but he was not giving up. Knowing Emre and others knew where she was but refused to tell him was causing a big waste of time in his finding her. He felt very frustrated by this but could not do anything about it.
It was going to be hard to get back to work at the office. However, the logic in his doing this was so he could be near Leyla. He might just possibly luck on to some information about Sanem's whereabouts.
If he had to, he was not beyond eavesdropping.
