Chapter Three
"Ready to clean this place up?" asked Ezra as he and Aria got up from the couch.
Aria nodded and went to pick up a few of Katherine's toys that were scattered all over the floor. As she bent over, Aria felt a great discomfort in her back and stomach and it showed as she winced and grabbed her back and stomach.
"Hey, are you okay?" asked Ezra worriedly.
"Yeah, my back and stomach have been a little weird today, but I'm fine."
After a few minutes, Ezra needed paper towels to clean up a small mess made by Katherine earlier, but there were none in the kitchen. Aria offered to check under the bathroom sink to see if there were any extra rolls of paper towels in there.
Aria checked under the kitchen sink and found an extra roll hidden in the back. While pulling it out, Aria accidentally knocked over a few things in the cabinet. One of the things she knocked over was a box of tampons.
While she was picking up what she knocked over, Aria realized something. Aria grabbed her phone out of her pocket and checked the date.
She was late.
Ezra came upstairs, wondering what was taking Aria so long. Upon entering the bathroom, Ezra spotted Aria sitting on the floor with a dumbfounded expression in her face.
He kneeled down and asked "Aria? What's going on?"
"I'm late," Aria said as she slowly turned to look at Ezra.
Considering what they knew about Aria and her infertility, they'd just brush this off. Afterall, Aria already thought she was pregnant once before only to have that dream be squashed right before getting married. But something felt different.
Aria began to say "Ezra... when was the last time we..." she trailed off, but she didn't need to finish. Ezra knew what she meant.
"I- I don't know. A few weeks I guess."
They sat there in silence until Aria broke the silence by saying "That would explain the queasiness and cramps I've been having lately."
Sitting there in disbelief, Aria soon shook her head. "No I can't be pregnant. Three doctors already told me it would be nearly impossible."
Ezra grabbed her hand and said "Aria look at the signs. It seems possible to me."
Again, Aria shook her head. "I-I just don't think something like this would happen to me. I mean, being pregnant against all odds? After all I've been through, it seems too good to be true. It can't be true."
"Don't you think we should check and be sure?"
Aria sat there in silence. Did she really want to know? Aria had already been through this before: thinking she was pregnant and finding out she wasn't and could never be. What would Ezra think if she was pregnant? Aria would like to think he'd be happy, but what if he wasn't? What if she wasn't pregnant? Would Ezra resent her for it? All these thoughts were racing through Aria's head. She grew more and more nervous of the answer to this pregnancy question, but she had to know.
After a few minutes, Aria slowly nodded. Ezra slowly nodded at her response.
"You should stay here and try to wrap your head around this as well as you can. I'll go buy the pregnancy tests," offered Ezra.
"I'm gonna call Hanna or Alison. They've been through this; they could tell me if my symptoms really are for pregnancy."
They got up from the bathroom floor and walked downstairs together. Ezra gave Aria a quick kiss on the forehead and a small smile, then proceeded to head out the door to buy those pregnancy tests for Aria.
