We all run out and go down the steps that lead to the beach down below. Jc is in front of me, but he looks back. When he sees me, he reaches for my hand and holds it. I let him, and we get closer.
My heart starts to beat faster. Not only because I'm running so fast but because I'm getting ecstatic. This is it. This is finally it. I get to see them up close and personal.
We reach the shoreline and we stop there. We all make a circle. I'm breathing kind of heavily, but I don't care. I start to get butterflies in my stomach.
I see the boys take off their shoes, so I do the same. I'm bare footed and I feel the warm sand with my toes. And there's a slight breeze. That same perfect breeze I felt last night. Oh, and that relaxing ocean sound. Man, it makes me so happy. I close my eyes for a moment to take it all in.
"Okay," Trevor says. "I haven't shifted in a while, so I'll go first." As soon as he says that, we all take a few steps back to give him some room. We break up the circle and leave the space in front of him wide open. Cam and I are to his left, and he turns his head to us. He smirks at us and lifts his eyebrows. Then he looks ahead of him at the never ending ocean. The butterflies in my stomach grow in size and I feel like my heart is going to explode out of my chest.
He bends his legs so he's almost squatting. I can see how he takes a deep breath as his chest caves in and and then expands out. Then I see the shifting. This dark green color starts as a small dot on his forehead, but quickly starts to engulf him. Soon after I see the texture of scales. He starts to get bigger as I see the wings peeking out of his back until they are at their full wing span. Then he starts to run. His clawed feet splash the water before he gains air and takes off.
My eyes follow the creature. He starts to glide through the sky as he goes higher and higher. At first I can hear his wings go up and down as they pierce the air before he gets too high. He keeps on until I can no longer see him. All is left are the distinctive prints on the sand.
"That was cool," Cam says in awe.
"It was amazing," I add, still looking at the sky. Then I turn to Jc. "You guys never get caught?"
"No," Jc answers. "Not really. No one really likes this beach. I don't know why, though."
"Alright my turn," Connor announces as he steps forward. "I'm gonna go catch up with him." His routine is the same as Trevor's. He starts with the same stance, but instead, his body changes into a dark purple color. I notice his face change. A snout forms and he opens his mouth. I see the rows of razor sharp teeth. His eyes glow a bright golden color. His wings gain momentum and he's off.
He doesn't go running off like Trevor, though. Connor just stays there. Then, I see Jean walk up to the winged creature. She lightly touches his side, feeling every inch of his skin. Jean finds his wide tail and jumps on. She starts to climb up his tail, heading for his back. She struggles a little, but Connor uses his tail to give her a boost. Now she's firmly on his back, holding onto two spikes poking out of Connor's back.
"I'll see you girls over there!" she says with a smile. Then Connor starts to flap his wings, and in no time, he is off in the air. I feel the gust of wind he leaves behind.
"I'll race you Sam," Ricky challenges next.
"You're on," Sam accepts.
And then they both stand next to each. They stare each other off and nod. That's when I watch as they shift much quicker than Trevor or Connor. Sam turns a low red color while Ricky is a dark orange. I can't catch up with all their features that change because they are already in the air. I notice that Sam is in the air first before Ricky.
