Chapter 5: The Woman
Last night was great once my anger died down. The she wolf returned and although I wasn't able to find out who she was, I did manage to learn a bit about her as a person. She was the most skilled tracker in her pack and she was quite good at foraging as well. She knew about a lot of different plants; foods, herbs, poisons and almost everything that there was to know.
But her true interest was in finance. It was quite a lot of information actually to confide in me, taking into consideration that we were complete strangers to each other and that there was only a river stopping us from attacking each other. I, however, didn't think that she was hostile in any way. We talked into the early hours of the morning, me as a human and she as a wolf, but still she managed to keep her family life and her position within the pack as secret; she was indeed very mysterious.
Perhaps that's why I felt a unique pull towards her. Not strong enough to be a mate's pull but just enough to suggest friendship... or maybe more?
Returning to the present I cursed to myself. Can you not turn any relationship with a female romantic? I heaved my backpack over my shoulder and walked through the airport's sliding doors; a bag containing all my clothes and toiletries in my right hand. The line was pretty short at the check-in counter and it didn't take long before I was in my terminal.
The flight was departing soon so I grabbed a quick cup of coffee and a muffin since I missed out on breakfast. Within a few minutes, an announcement began sounding over the microphone advising passengers to make their way to their gate number. The process was a bit longer than I expected but I was seated comfortably in the aircraft in no time and ready for departure.
I didn't remember much of the flight since I spent most of it catching up on some much needed sleep. When the plane landed, I was patted awake by a very attractive female. My living arrangements for this trip had already been made so I didn't have to worry as I made my way past immigration.
I could smell the Beta even before I saw him. He was a tall, over-muscled guy with nut brown skin and a wide forehead. His eyebrows were so thin they were barely noticeable and adding to the impressive stature was his short, charcoal hair. I was not intimidated, however, as I was an Alpha and my social standing as well as my strength was greater than his.
"Welcome to France. I am Jaque Pyle. The Light Pace Pack is honored to have you among us," he said warmly in a french accent, although he didn't look to be French himself.
"Thank you. It is good to be here," I said.
"Alpha Maverick would like to see you as soon as possible. I had instructions to escort you to the pack house before moving you into the Alpha guest rooms."
"Let us be off then. I too, do not wish to delay this introduction any further," I replied.
He smiled a kind smile and immediately I felt comfortable in his company. Father had instructed that I would come and help with the exchange in Paris since he was still stuck to his office and I was still 'inexperienced'. I had agreed for two reasons, first because I had never been to Paris and as I looked around I could understand why it was such a great holiday destination; and second I couldn't deny time away from my problems and to listen to my father.
I had a feeling I might miss the she wolf by the river a little bit because I wouldn't be able to talk to her, or weirdly communicate between human and wolf. Even with our different forms, I felt like I understood what she wanted to say, and that's what had me captivated and interested in our friendship, if I could call it that yet.
"How was your flight Alpha Lockwood?"
I stared at Jaque and thought about the best words to describe my flight.
