Chapter 6: A Gun, Really?

After the Moon Goddess uttered this mysterious woman's name, she disappeared along with the moon, both in my dream and in reality. As I woke up to the early morning in France the sun shone through the window.

I felt pretty good, aside from the confusing night, my body felt well rested and I had energy to burn; so I decided to go for a jog.

Finding my comfortable mesh shorts for jogging proved to be easy as it sat on top of all my clothes in my suitcase. I wore a grey singlet top and the fluro blue and green Nike shoes that I brought for the trip.

Walking down the stairs, I ran into Alpha Maverick rushing up the stairs frantically.

"Alpha Maverick, is everything okay?" I asked, concern lacing my voice.

He hadn't seemed to have noticed me until that moment. His eyes met mine and in his usually brown chocolate orbs, I found that it had turned to a colour so dark that it seemed black... he was fighting with his wolf over something.

Alpha Maverick's expressions showed that he was considering if he should tell me, and for that reason I placed the most trustworthy expression on my face. He examined me for a few moments before the familiar signs of resignation showed upon his features.

He sighed, "The other pack that we had called upon for help, their Alpha and Beta are causing a few disputes amongst the bride to be. They are supposed to be helping us organise the change between packs, but they keep trying to dictate her choices and she doesn't like that one bit."

I frowned at the news he had just told me. Why would anyone want to ruin someone's exchange and celebration of matrimony to their one true soul mate?

Forgetting all about my jog and how good I was feeling earlier, my thoughts were clouded by my annoyance with this other pack.

"Why do they feel the need to interfere in everything regarding my pack?" I asked, voicing out my thoughts. This wasn't the first time Tressa, the bride to be, had complained about this mysterious pack.

He smiled softly at me and gestured for me to follow him back up the stairs into his office. I followed willingly and we found our way into his office. Alpha Maverick took his seat behind his desk and then insisted that I take a seat on the couch to his left. I was confused at why he didn't offer me the chairs directly opposite him which were obviously meant for the clients he was referring or meeting with.

At the order, I realized that I was simply here to witness a conversation he was going to have with someone else.

The office fell into silence as the Alpha sat back in his office chair and fell deep in thought. I took that time to analyze his office and compare it to mine. He had shelves of books lining each wall were there was no furniture pressed against the wall - like where I sat present. In the middle of the room was where his huge oak brown desk was located alongside his formal black office chair, the back of the chair reaching above his head.

The couch I was sitting on was a plush leather brown sofa that matched colours with the book shelves in a mahogany brown colour. The floor was carpeted in a beige and there were pictures, framed in black painted wood holding pictures of the past Alpha's of the pack.

My office had probably less than half the amount of books and therefore shelves lining my walls. My table, chair and sofa was black in colour, as was the rest of the furniture. The floor was made of wooden boards and the walls were lined with certificates of achievements instead of pictures.

There was one picture in my dad and I's office: one from when my mom was still alive and she was cuddling with me at the beach a few miles south in our pack territory; my dad was in the picture as well and his eyes were fixated on my mother as his huge arms circled around both me and my mom... one big happy family.
