Chapter 7: Sympathy

I felt a cold wind on my face. Salty air infiltrated my nose and the sound of crashing waves rang in my ears. Slowly I opened my eyes to find that I was seated on the sand in a beach. Palm trees swayed on either side and the turquoise water receding into the horizon was crystal clear. Confused, I frantically searched around for a familiar landmark or face.

It looked to me that I was somewhere in the Pacific. But how did I get here? There was no boat or ship nearby to have given me transport and none of my possessions to show I had ventured here myself. Everything was silent; no creatures made a noise and the soft air caressing my cheeks refused to howl.

The skies were also bright with shades of blue and white. I was alone but then a figure appeared from the corner of my eye. It was a girl with blond hair and emerald green eyes wearing a flowing gold dress. She looked back at me with a smile playing on her lips but she continued walking forward into the ocean.

My mate. She was right there in front of me!

In the distance I saw a huge tidal wave beginning to gather in the waters, and it was heading straight for her. Panicked, I tried to move but my body was tied down by some invisible force.

Reaching out, I yelled, "Isobel!"

The wave crashed and I shut my eyes waiting for the water to envelope me, only to find myself transported back to the med bay when I dared to open them again.

Jaque was next to my bed; everything he had thrown gathered back in his arms.

"Alpha!" he said anxiously.

My head snapped to meet his and I could feel myself trying to calm down. My arm was still raised up in front of me and I could safely assume that the Light Pace Beta had heard me.

"Alpha!" he said again, wanting to know the source of my outburst.

I barely had enough time to explain before my Beta charged into the room.

"Rollin?" he said, "Who did this to you? I'll kill them!"

"Widmore?" I asked, "What are you doing here? Who's managing the pack?"

"Don't worry about the pack. Hermia has it under control. As for me, I came here because I heard my Alpha got a silver bullet shot into him."

Chuckling weakly, I replied, "Yeah that... It was the damned Dragon Beat; Dorian and his Beta, Davis. They were bothering Tressa."

"And who's bright idea was it to bring a silver gun to the party?"

"It wasn't a party," I glowered, "Just a discussion gone wrong. And I certainly would have brought my own set of weapons if I had known that the Beta was a bit mental in the head."

"That little shit! Tell me where he is and I'll rip his heart out!"

"Calm down, Widmore. There's no point creating a bigger mess out of this. Honestly though, the first time I saw him I didn't really think he would react that violently if I attacked his Alpha."

A shocked expression found its way on Widmore's face.

"You attacked Dorian? Have you lost your mind?" he asked me.

I caught onto the fact that I had just told him I started the argument and stumbled to tell the honest story.

"No no no, you have it all wrong. Gosh, why didn't anyone tell you?" I asked, "I was simply observing at first because Alpha Maverick was trying to talk to them about messing with the bride to be, and then he got a little bit out of control so I decided to step in to aid Alpha Maverick and protect Tressa."
