Chapter 7

/Keira's POV/

After that lesson, I sped off with my materials eager to find my two friends and tell them what had happened.

Cassidy listened with her head slightly cocked to the left. She absent-mindedly stirred her mashed potatoes around her plate as she listened to me recalling what had happened during my art lesson.

"Well ok maybe he's just trying to be all mysterious to make you more interested in him?"

Wow that must have been the first time Cassidy sounded remotely intelligent. I shrugged, she could be right but somehow I doubted it.

"I don't know Cass...I feel like there's something I've overlooked somehow."

She responded with a "Meep meep, MAYBE. Meep meep. I think you are being paaaraaanoiddd."

Ok, intellectual Cassidy had just taken a hike.

"What's with the meep. Gosh you. Just when I thought you were just starting to make sense."

Cassidy just rocked her chair back and front in response, teetering dangerously on the back legs.

"You know what, I'm not hungry" I exclaimed, "Here you go Bree, Cass, finish up for me. Thanks!"

Grabbing my stuff I exited quickly before I could see their puzzled faces. As I passed rows of lockers in the deserted corridors, I couldn't help but feel as if there was something I had overlooked.

"We don't have much time Lucian!"

I jumped slightly at that angry exclamation.

"SHH! Quiet! Seriously man."

Hmmph, well for people who were trying to be discreet they were being pretty loud. Unable to help myself I tiptoed to hide behind a nearby dustbin, I had to find out what was going on especially since it had something to do with Lucian.

"Luce, you don't understand, it's going to be the full moon soon and we have wasted enough time already! Since we've found her can't we just go?!" The first voice exclaimed aggressively.

I shivered. He sounded really dangerous and this conversation was making me increasingly nervous.

"Man, chill. She really has no clue. She doesn't even know who you are. This is going to take some time."

"Well, speed it up because we don't have so much time and this school is making me sick."

"What, no one interesting here for you huh?"

"You know I would never fall for anyone who isn't from my kingdom let alone some sickening ignorant." He viciously spat out the last word as if it was poison in his mouth.

It was incredibly puzzling, surely he couldn't hate someone that much could he? And they were here for such a sort time, how is it possible to develop such a grudge?

"I didn't want to have to say this but deal with it for the time being. We still have one more week to solve this. I'm going to try my best to convince her ok?"

"You better. The longer we stay away the worst things get in Lyrellia and don't forget how long it will take to reach our own kingdom."

What, were they kings or something?

Shuffling around in the limited space of my hiding spot, I strained my ears in order to pick up their increasingly quieter conversation. I must say, as much as this conversation was making me suspicious and uncomfortable, it was strangely intriguing.

"Xavier, I know what I'm doing", Lucian asserted.

"Fine. Have it your way. One more week. I hate it here. Not to mention Keira looks terrible."

I take offense at that statement. I might not be perfect but I don't think I'm that bad.

"Chill, I've got this." He replied before muttering a softer "I think so."

Deciding that I've heard enough I stealthily crept out from behind the dustbin and tried to sneak away undetected. I had made it to the last row of lockers when the bell rang causing me to jump in surprise and crash into the tacky metal on my right.

The two boys immediately peeked out from the crevice they were hiding in and I begin to shuffle my feet and anxiously rub my hands. Oh no.

Fortunately, before they could see me the canteen doors burst open and a wave of satiated students burst forth from behind the glass doors and hid me from their view. Letting out all the air I didn't realize I was holding in, I turned to leave the corridor when I felt a gaze burning into my back. Turning around, a pair of greenish eyes met mine through the flood of students and for a second I felt myself shiver almost in some sort of anticipation. Shaking it off, I mentally berated myself for being so silly and over-thinking things. My footsteps silent in the cacophony of the crowd, I quickly weaved through them and made my way to the final class for the day.
