Coincidence

A few nights had passed since that dinner and neither of them had Philipp slept properly. His mood swings were now extreme. He did not know how to feel or behave. As a precautionary measure, he decided not to call Arnold for at least a week. He needed to put his thoughts in order.

Heidi Bauer did flirt with him. That was unmistakeable. He wasn't sure if it was because she wanted to or perhaps he had given her a signal, that day when she caught him sizing her up. He knew very well what he wanted: to stay alone with her in a room with a bed on which he'd throw her, remove all her clothes and take her over and over again, until she promised she'd never wiggle that ass in front of him like that. Then he'd take her again until she promised she would.

If only she wasn't Arnold's daughter! Why! Why had it had to happen to him? Of all women! It was clear to him by now, three weeks after they had met, that he wouldn't rest until something happened between them. There were moments when he hoped she'd come to the dinner with her boyfriend, since, well, he didn't really know if she had one. Girls good-looking like her are almost always taken. But, would she have flirted like that night at his place if she had really been with someone? No, a woman of her class definitely not.

His mind was still on fire when he decided to go for a drink on Friday evening with colleagues from the club management. He needed to relax his mind at least a bit before their match against Nuremberg on Sunday afternoon. Couple of whiskeys would do the job, at least for a day or two.

However, all his determination sank like Titanic once he and his three friends entered the pub and sat at a table: Heidi was there, next to the bar, surrounded with a bunch of friends. She was as gorgeous as always, in a midnight blue knee-length dress with covered cleavage and shoulders. Her hair was large and luxurious again, and, Philipp was sure, every man in the room wanted to touch it.

"Is everything alright?" one of his friends interrupted his confused staring at a group of young adults.

"Oh... Yes, of course." He turned his gaze back on his friends. He didn't want any of them to notice how he had got excited by the hot blonde and then to start asking questions. He didn't need anyone to know. It was enough that Luka Zimmermann and Gerard Lange had almost correctly concluded what had been troubling him over the past few weeks.

Nevertheless, whiskeys didn't help. After he forced down two glasses, he didn't want to drink any more. The smell of alcohol was suddenly nausea inducing. He was trying hard to focus on what his friends talked about, but it was so difficult knowing that Heidi was in the same room, looking like the most beautiful woman in the universe.

It was only a matter of minutes when their eyes met. He was looking at her more than at his friends – which wasn't so difficult since he had purposefully seated himself so that he had a good view at her and her company – and at one point she burst out laughing, arching her back and turning on the chair. His gut twisted: she was indeed the prettiest woman he'd ever seen.

She recognised him instantly and her eyes showed she was surprised. Pleasantly. She looked at him for a long moment, before winking and turning back to her friends.

"Philipp... Philipp?"

He twitched at his friend's mocking voice. "Yeah, I completely agree," he said and everyone at the table laughed, and Philipp couldn't help either. "I'm sorry, boys, I drifted away. I was rewinding something we practiced today, making sure it was all correct."

It was now even more difficult to concentrate on the conversation. Heidi was turning to look and smile at him every now and then, and he started wishing that his friends realise it was late and they should go home, at the same time praying that she didn't leave before that.
