A/N:
Hey guys! I am so sorry for the terribly long wait for such a short chapter. This is a pretty important part of the story and I really want to get it right the first time, so I hope you understand.
To avoid a long author's note, I just wanted to say that I really appreciate all of the new interest in my story, as well as the OG's that have stuck around since the beginning. I hope that this little chunk that I was able to write holds you over until I finish the next chapter.
Thanks again everyone, and I hope you enjoy!!
Sophia's POV:
Milly wouldn't keep my gaze, whether from shame or because I was outright glaring at her, I wasn't sure. But I didn't care. I felt betrayed by yet another person, the only friend I thought I had in this horrible palace.
"What do you propose we do, Sophia?"
I gave a mean smile. My anger and pain was leaking out of me and I couldn't stop it. "If what you say is true, you should have come to me from the beginning, Milly. I want to put an end to all of this, even if taking care of Adrian is the only option."
Her eyes widened. "You mean to tell me that you are willing to kill the king for the sake of your freedom? You?"
I rolled my eyes at her. "Your faith in me is amazing, thanks. Especially since whatever plans you have had so far have worked out great, clearly."
She made a face at me. "Fine. Again, what do you have in mind then? You can't expect it to be as easy as putting a knife in his side."
"No, I didn't. That's why I need your help." I paused thoughtfully. "But I do think that he will have his guard down with me. He always does. And when we are giving our vows I think that he will be even more distracted. The wedding is the perfect time to strike."
She gave me a mocking smile. "I think you underestimate him. The ceremony will have everyone of importance there, including the most powerful beings in Kilader. All of the palace guards will be in attendance as well. You will have layers and layers of people to get through, and even if you somehow manage to kill him you will have to make an escape with all of those witnesses." She shook her head at me. "Not a good plan."
I sighed, the fire in my chest already dying down at her words. She was right. "Alright. Do you have a better idea?"
"I do, but you won't like it." I gestured for her to continue, annoyed at her wasting precious time. "I think you should go through with the wedding and strike when you two are alone. In my opinion, tonight when you are in bed together would be the wisest time."
I sputtered. "You're nuts! There is no chance in hell I am sleeping with my psycho kidnapper!"
It was her turn to roll her eyes at me. "I never said you had to sleep with him. Be creative. But if you want to assassinate the most powerful creature of these lands, you're going to have to sacrifice something, whether that be your pride or otherwise."
I ground my teeth, "You're saying you want me to be willing to sleep with him if it comes to it?"
"Interpret it as you will. I'm simply saying you need to understand that it won't be easy, otherwise he would have been killed by now."
My eyebrows smashed together. Perhaps she was right, I was underestimating him and his followers. I couldn't let anger get the best of me. I had to think-
"Sophia, I understand why you would be angry with me, but I am still on your side."
My eyes widened. "What?"
