Adrian's POV:

The carriage rocked on the gravel road, annoying the young king more and more as they slowly made their way back to the capital. The fact that he had to run this errand  himself was more than enough to make him angry, but it took much longer than he had anticipated. His plans had a habit of doing that lately, falling apart around him.

This plan, however, he was determined to see until the bitter end.

The woman across from him looked just as annoyed. Beside her was Jared, clearly making the old woman uncomfortable.  Adrian gave as close to a smile as he could muster. "We are very close priestess, don't fret too much."

She rose an old, wrinkled eyebrow at him. Out of everyone in the kingdom, she was one of the oldest and mysterious. A subject that was unruly as she was powerful. She stayed out of politics as much as she could, and he could tell that she was less than pleased to taken out of her solitude. Jared had to practically make her enter the carriage."I hadn't expected to be summoned to the castle for two more weeks. And being royally escorted was not in my plans either."

"As I had told you, this is quite urgent. I wanted to see to it myself that you would make it to the castle safely. You are free to leave as soon as the blood ceremony is over, though I would recommend staying until the wedding. It's going to be grander than anything this world has ever seen."

Sophia's POV:

I had such an uneasy feeling. Adrian had been gone for a day and a half now which was only making it worse. After talking to Ellen I just wanted to vomit with worry but there wasn't anything I could do about it. We made our deal and now I had to act. Well, as soon as Adrian was here.

I had woken up without him here and it only heightened my anxiety. The guards would only let Milly in to cloth me and bring me my meals, but she was otherwise told to do other chores. So I was all alone in a room I couldn't leave, even though the resistance potion was still in effect.  And while I waited somewhat patiently for Adrien to come home all I could think about was Louis.

I sighed and flopped down on the bed. Louis. Ellen made it very clear I was not to see him again, not until the plan was in motion, and while I really disliked her, I had to agree it was too risky. With Adrian with me every possible moment-

There was a knock at the door and I jumped from the bed. "Yes? Milly?"

Adrian opened the door, Jared right behind him. He smiled at me. "Not Milly."

"Adrian!" I only paused a moment before I rushed over and hugged him. He was a bit surprised, his arms hanging at his sides until he wrapped them around me to pull me close.

"Did you miss me, my love?"

I could feel my face blush. "I did." My face was still tucked into his chest. I hoped to the Gods that he didn't see how nervous I was."You were gone much longer than I thought you would be."

He pulled away. "I'm home now. And there will be no trips away in the forceable future." He turned to Jared. "Please." Jared walked over without a word, performed his spell on the chain and left the room. There was a bit of an awkward silence as I tried to think of what to say. I was still mad at him, but weirdly excited to see him at the same time. And then there was the plan Ellen told me to follow....
