People always say time flies by when you're having fun. And clearly, that sang is true. It's been a few months since Marshall and Everest had become mates. To say that the two had gotten closer would be an understatement. At this point, they were practically inseparable, especially since the husky had moved into the lookout
Right now, the sun was beginning to rise up, as it was the start of a new day. And despite usually sleeping in as much as she could, today Everest woke up earlier than she typically would. Not willingly, but it wasn't just by chance either. It's what this day was, and the horrible memories it brought back. It was a normal day for everyone else, and she had mostly gotten over everything, but this one day was always hard.
She sat there in her mate's puphouse just silently thinking, trying her best to not tears escape her eyes. She wasn't sure what she was supposed to do or feel, but luckily, she suddenly heard Marshall waking up, allowing her to turn her attention to something that actually made her happy.
"Good morning Marshy." She greeted warmly, nuzzling him as he tiredly stood up. The dally smiled and nuzzled back, but he felt like something was off. Everest didn't seem as cheery as she usually did, her smile seemed forced, and the look in her eyes was off. But, he figured she just might not have slept well, so he shrugged it off.
"Morning Eve." He replied after letting himself wake up. He still couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong, so of course, wanting her to be ok, he asked her about it. "Is everything ok? You seem a bit down."
"Huh? Oh, I'm fine, just tired." She answered, making up an excuse. Although not fully convinced, Marshall just let it go as the two left their puphouse to join the others for breakfast. They both went outside to see Chase and Skye also leaving their houses.
The two couples greeted each other before Chase pulled out his megaphone and signaled for the other three to cover their ears, something they defiantly wouldn't have to be told twice. That stupid megaphone seemed like it would blow out one's eardrums sometimes.
"ALRIGHT, GUYS! LET'S WAKE UP AND GET BREAKFAST!" He shouted. As always, Rubble woke up the second Chase said breakfast. The bulldog quickly ran outside of his puphouse along with the others, only they were slower.
"Come on, what are we waiting for? Let's eat!" He said happily as he ran into the elevator, followed by the rest of the pups as they shook their heads in amusement. Everyone went upstairs for breakfast, which Ryder had just finished preparing.
Despite loving the liver pup food that the boy would get for her, Everest still ate slowly. Even if she was just tired, she would always at least eat something. That fun and tomboyish side of her just wasn't there right now. Even though she knew that her past couldn't physically hurt her, it still stung in her heart.
Her still unusual behavior didn't go unnoticed by her mate as he walked over to check on her. "Eve, are you sure you're ok? You usually love that food. Do you feel sick?" He asked, clearly concerned.
"I already said I was fine Marshy, you don't need to keep asking." The husky responded, raising her voice slightly. Unlike the last time, Marshall wasn't convinced. He knew her well enough to know when something was wrong.
"No, you're not. I can tell you're upset. I just wanna help, please tell me what's wrong." Marshall begged, hoping for some sort of an explanation. Instead, he got a much different reply from her.
"I SAID I WAS FINE MARSHALL!" Everest yelled in frustration. Everyone was shocked by her sudden outburst, especially Marshall. She had never gotten angry at him like this, or at anyone for that matter.
