Becky Rosen was seated on a cheap dinner resting her chin on one hand and tapping her other hand fingers on the worn out table. She was looking through the window and wondering how much of a mess her husband, Rod, was doing cooking lunch back home. She had just concluded she should have told him to order a pizza - the kids would have loved the idea - when she heard the click of her laptop being closed.
Across the table, Sam was staring blankly at his own hands with his lips slightly open and brow wrinkled. Becky could tell he was clearly in shock and even though she pitted him a bit, she was struggling her urge for giggling. It was amusing how his bewildered face was so endearing it reminded her of the time she foolishly thought she was in love with him. Luckily, beside him, his older brother Dean was busy scratching his hair and slowly shaking his head in disbelief, so she had some time to straighten her face.
– Son of bitch. – said Dean, finally looking at Becky.
– It is terrible, right?! – she stated wide-eyed.
– He tricked us. – he grouched.
– I've barely remembered seeing him, you know? I thought it was only a bad dream, or something I've imagined. Then I found this bizarre file. Which I knew from the start wasn't mine. So ridiculous and badly written. I mean, vamp-mimes, really? Dean Winchester killed by a nail? Poor Sam growing old, sad and isolated from all of his friends? His beautiful hair becoming as ugly as a one-dollar-wig? I was wondering if it was some kind of prank when everything started to come back to me. Chuck had really been to my house. He had actually vaporized my family and me. And he had indeed written an awful and cruel ending for you two.
– But the file is months old, you and your family didn't notice all the missing time? – inquired Sam finally recovered from his astonishment.
– No. For us it all has never happened, it feels like we've never been gone.
– How come we're living Chuck's ending if we've defeated him?! – stated Dean mostly to himself and then he turned to face Sam – You think, he faked being surprised when Jack got his powers or what?
– I have no idea.
– Well, I'm glad I've reached you before you went after the vamp-mimes. Your gorgeous mane doesn't deserve to end up looking like a dead possum, Sam.
– Hey! – complained Dean – I'm the one who was going to have an outrageous death. – hereupon he angrily smacked the back of his brother's head and proceeded – And you didn't even get me a decent funeral as I've asked you for. You're such an ungrateful prick.
– You can't be mad at me for something that didn't happen yet, Dean.
– Of course, I can. And I bet you also didn't look after Miracle properly. – he spilled out and as he frowned in a huff he spitted - Bitch!
– Jerk!
After a resigned sigh and a long look of disapproval, Sam ran his fingers through his hair and decided to ignore his brother. He would've liked to believe he was annoyed because Dean was losing track of what really mattered. However, in fact he knew, he was mad at himself. Until that moment, he had completely forgotten the detailed and very specific instructions his brother had given him - big funeral, open bar, choir, Sabbath cover band, and Gary Busey reading the eulogy - when they believed he was going to die exploding Amara, a.k.a. God's sister, and saving the world, years ago.
– Becky, thank you so much for warning us. – declared Sam - If you find any other outlandish file or remember of something else that could be helpful, please give us a call.
– Sure.
– And I guess this means no 'Pie Fest' for me, right? – mocked Dean.
– Absolutely not. – laughed Becky – You two are forbidden from doing anything that's written in Chuck's cheesy ending!
