Tommy had healed. Not completely, but he was a lot better than he had been. He was able to walk on his own now. Techno and Jay were still cautious, but he was getting better.
So Techno took Jay and Tommy out to do some training. He had always been the best in the family and so training his younger siblings came without a second thought. Just like when they were kids.
Jay could remember that, she was always so excited when it was time to train with big brother Techno. He didn't give the younger two much attention other than that, so training was her favorite time.
She hated to admit that she really looked up to him.
Techno tied blindfolds around Jay and Tommy's eyes.
"You have to take in your surroundings. You won't always be able to see well." Techno explained. "Hear where I am, hear where the other is. Listen to the breathing. Memorize what it sounds like when someone comes close, when someone lunges. You can predict what someone is going to do by sound alone." He walked around them slowly. Jay heard him stop. She could hear him breathe, knew right where he was.
She heard his feet shuffle and she turned to him, catching his fist before in connected with her head.
"Good." Techno said, she could hear him smile. "That was good." He turned and did the same with Tommy, who seemed to have more issues. She could hear him grunt with impact once, twice, three times, and then Techno was laughing. "Good, Tommy." He said, she could hear him move back.
She heard Techno whisper something, and Tommy was moving as well now. She stood completely still, barely breathing, just listening. She could tell the difference between the boys. Techno was lighter on his feet, almost dancing's round her. Tommy was louder, rougher, and still limping from his previous injuries. Tommy lunged towards her and she easily caught his arm, pulling it behind him. Then Techno was moving, and there was nothing she could do as his fist connect with her side. She grunted on impact, coughing.
"Don't focus on just one." Techno said, "listen for both of us. Listen to who's moving."
Tommy lunged towards her, and she grabbed his arm, pulling him in front of her as Techno lunged forward, but not quick enough. He hit her once more.
"Try again."
This time, Techno lunged first. He went to tackle her. She backed up and could hear Tommy behind her, stepping out of the way just in time for him to tackle Tommy instead.
"Ow." She heard softly from Tommy. She pulled off the blindfold, seeing Techno had fallen on top of Tommy in the snow. She started laughing, reaching out a hand to help them up. Techno pulled her into the snow with them. Then they were all three laughing, throwing snow between them.
"What are you three doing?" Phil asked, marching up to them. He crossed his arms. "What if Dream stopped by? He's out there looking for Tommy, you could have been seen." Phil grabbed Jays arm and pulled her up roughly.
"Hey, get your hands off of me." She pulled away, confused. "Why are you acting like you care?"
"I am your father and you will listen to me-"
"Bullshit." Jay crossed her arms. "You haven't been my father in 11 years. Hell, you were barely a father before then." She scoffed. "Wilbur raised me, with no help from you. I am who I am because of me. Don't act like you can march up here after a whole life of ignoring me and tell me what to do." Phil looked angry now.
"You will not speak to me that way-"
"I will speak to you whatever way I want, Phil." She turned and pulled Tommy up, slowly helping him into the house. She didn't have time to deal with this. Techno would handle their father, she was sure.
"I can't believe you just did that." Tommy said softly as she helped him sit on one of the couches.
"Yeah, well, he doesn't get to act like my father after not caring." Jay shook her head. She helped Tommy take off his jacket and gloves, wrapping him in a warm blanket.
The two siblings sat quietly. Once Jay took off her own snow clothes, she sat next to Tommy, who opened his arms and wrapped her in the blanket as well. He leaned his head on her shoulder, probably tired from the first day he really had with any exercise.
The two siblings fell asleep there, wrapped in the same blanket. Tommy, with arm around his sister and head rested on her shoulder, Jay, leaning against his head. The third sibling soon joined them, smiling at the sweet picture.
