Shade 5: Scaredy cat
Arthur sent out a patrol immediately. They had set a trap for the beast, hoping to lure it out into the open so it could be slain. Arthur took as little men as possible to minimalise the risk of killing all of his knights; instead he only took 3 of his finest... and Merlin.
Arthur, Gwaine, Percival and Leon had marinated their swords and shields in vats of vinegar the night before meaning, for Merlin who was riding behind them, the air was thick with vinegar.
Arthur tossed a nod in Gwaine’s direction, signalling for him to dismount his horse.
“So I’m the bait” He sighed.
Gwaine hopped down from his horse and pulled out his sword, he gripped it hard and walked forward slowly as Arthur and the others hid behind a boulder. An eerie silence rang through Gwaine’s eardrums; He tightened his grip even more on the smelly sword and shield, jumping at the sound of falling trees in the distance. The sound of enormous footsteps ploughing through the scenery. The deafening growl of a hungry Dayl...
Gwaine suddenly felt cold. He stood still as a huge shadow cast itself over him ... For a moment he thought it could’ve been Percival). Fear had frozen him; he didn’t move a muscle (his perfectly sculpted, gorgeous muscle’s that is...) as the beast towered over him.
“Go!” Arthur squealed as he galloped towards the Dayl.
Arthur slashed his sword through the beast’s tail; watching in disbelief as it disintegrated before his eyes. The monster let out a painful cry, turning away from Gwaine and resetting its course for Arthur. Percival rushed over to Gwaine trying to move him to safety; he wouldn’t budge.
Arthur stared the Dayl straight in the eye; it screamed in his face, making Arthur cringe at its rotten breath. Putting his arm in front of his mouth, to shield the smell, he launched his sword at the Dayl’s head. Arthur’s sword spiralled straight through the creature’s skull. Its head imploded, leaving a pile of scaly ash.
“Gwaine!” Arthur called, running to him.
Gwaine still stood in the same place, petrified. It took over half an hour before Arthur managed to coax him back onto his horse.
