The Heart of a Visit

The wushp of the weather stripping

As I open the door

The kchush of tiny slippered feet

Across the hardwood floor

The cry of, 'Grampa!'

As my leg is tackled with joy

And the gerliggety of pleasure

From a tiny little boy

A ride out to the kitchen

Then down off the shoulder

The pwetch of a kiss

From mom when he told her

That Grampa had given him

A ride like a horse

And could he stay for dinner

Mom said, 'Of course.'

After food and stories

Then tucked into bed

Grampa whispered 'Good night.'

Kissed his grandson's soft head

And listened a while

For the soft thoosh of sleep

As dreams took flight

On the memories they'll keep

Definitions -

A/N: As someone pointed out to me, these 'words' are defined already in the context of their use but the challenge was to define each creation so, as they seem to me . . .

whushp - the sound of the door brushing past the copper weather-strip.

kchush- the sound of a child's slippers sliding across the floor.

gerliggety - my interpretation of the noises made by little kids when having an excited moment.

pwetch - the sound of lips kissing little foreheads.

thoosh - that sound of gentle breathing as a child sleeps.
