I felt my skin begin to quiver, as though each molecule of my body were moving, then the room faded, and I materialized outside of the courtyard. The baby was still in my arms, her black eyes were wide open and she moved her head in circles, taking everything in. I could see behind the centers of her round eyes, there was fear and she didn’t understand what was going on, but she didn’t like it.
Samara ran towards me through the corridor opening and stopped, staring past me. Her flesh was still grey and her face was lined with fear. I turned, my eyes readily searching for the problem. The minute I turned around I felt emotion slam into me like the impact of a car crash.
Leo was standing with his left hand in a hold around Sam’s neck.Cicerowas on the ground, bleeding from a wound in his right side. The Elders were huddled in the far left corner of the courtyard, inside a corridor. Leo’s eyes were pure black. No white at all. His fangs were elongated, his teeth pointed. His nails had grown into slaws, and his skin had become translucent.
“Leo stop!” I screamed at him. He turned his head towards me; a predatory smile crept onto his face. My blood turned cold in my veins, my heart froze from beating. The baby in my arms let out a cry. I watched as her tiny hand formed a fist, it opened and closed.
The vampire ran towards me, right as his eyes rolled back into his head and his body fell limply to the ground. I stared down at the baby. She had grown quiet, and peaceful.
Samara ran forward. Sam picked himself off the ground and ran toCicero. I stood there, staring down at the baby.
“What did you do?”Ciceroasked me, a grave tone in his voice. My jaw fell, and I just stared blankly, barely able to murmur what I wanted to say.
“It. It was-wasn’t me. It wasn’t m-me.” I stammered out with choked breaths.Cicero’s eyes trailed down to the baby, Sam and Samara looked at her as well.
“What is she?” I asked them.
Leo was put in his room to sleep, whileCicerowas taken to the Order Chambers. Sam went in search ofNikkoto use his special powers to healCicero. There were some perks to being a fairy, especially if you were a member of the Order.
I was curled up on the couch, exhaustion weighing heavily on my eye lids. The baby was asleep in the crib Sam had found. Sam was at a desk going over things, writing down information, and questioning Samara. I could feel myself slowly fading, when everything disappeared.
“Dark Angel, what happened to him?” Queen Aveline’s voice rang out, and I spun to face her. Her green eyes ere darker, and her lips were pursed
“The baby did it…and he-he went after Cicero...” I bit my lip and held my gaze at my feet.
“Did he scare you?” She looked at me, her eyes lightened.
“Yes. I’ve never seen him...like that…”
“It’s okay. Go to him. You don’t remember what used to be Ever, but he was happy with you…happier than he could have been with me.” She lifted a hand and placed it against my cheek. “Only you, Dark Angel, will save him”
The vision faded and I opened my eyes finding my self alone in the room. I got up and ran out, rushing through the corridors to find the stupid vampire. I threw open his chamber door and barged into the room. He stood up from his desk, his eyes were wide, his face gaunt and his skin pale.
“Ever what are you-” I cut him off.
“What don’t I know about you and me?”
“What?”
“Tell me Leo. Right now. No games. Just tell me.”
“You loved me…” His eyes flickered to black. “And I loved you. But I let you go. I ruined it. Because I messed up. The spinner was there…she looked like you, and she knew that if you saw…it would unleash everything you controlled.”
“What happened?” I looked down, a pit forming in my stomach.
“The thing you saw before, of you…as a monster. That is what happened.” I felt his hand on my arm. “I couldn’t help you. You have always been stronger than me. I underestimated you. I should have known…”I looked up at him.
“It wasn’t your fault.” Then I kissed him.
