We made plans to leave on the expedition for the book in a fortnight. Luscinia had developed into a child about ten years of age. She was brilliant, extremely intelligent, and extremely powerful. She began practicing energy harnessing with Nikko. Cicero, Leo and I met daily in the meeting hall. Samara conversed regularly with Death, updating the positions of the enemy line. A war was coming. Whether we were prepared to fight or not, the Demons were coming.
Refugees were entering the Sanctuary daily, pouring in from all over the Fae realm. Sam had gone out on his own adventure in order to bring back the powerful subjects of his fellow Shadowers.
I was packing for my future expedition. We were leaving the Sanctuary first. We would be gone after tonight.
“Ever?” I spun around, my map dropping from my hands.
“Yeah?” My voice shook slightly. I hadn’t been paying attention. My eyes met with the vampire’s.
“How are you?” His hands snaked there way to my sides and he pulled me towards him. I kissed him lightly.
“I could be better.” A smile parted my lips, and the vampire’s mouth crashed down onto mine.
There were no more soft kisses, no cautious thoughts. His hands slid up under my shirt and my hands moved to undo his jeans. He pushed me roughly onto the bed and I laughed. I remembered before he did to close the link. When I shut him out, he got the hint. Leo then took off my jeans.
My eyes grew heavy as I was surrounded by the constant beat of the sound of his heart. I had never thought that vampires would have heart beats, but I guess that would mean that I wouldn’t have one either. I felt Leo’s lips press against the top of my head and I sighed. He pulled me closer against him and I relaxed into the warmth of his chest.
“I love you.”
I left the next day. Luscinia, Samara, Sam, and I left. Leo and Cicero stayed to take care of the Sanctuary and the Order.
I began my journey.
