“Ever, you were never human. Before you were an Angel you were a very, very powerful mortal. We have told you about Spinners and how one is after you; well a Spinner is a moderately powerful witch. We have no name for what you were; that was one of the most powerful witches of time. This man who captured you and your family wanted to harvest your powers. Your parents were not human. Your mother was a witch, a Spinner and your father was a Hunter. Your younger sister was quite powerful as well, but no match for you. The magic you practiced was dark and light, along with the gray area.” Leo paused looking at me, gauging my reactions. I held myself like a stone. My eyes intimidating, no emotion in them and my lips pursed. I nodded for him to go on. “When you were first turned into an Angel, you were vengeful. Cicero even feared you, just as much as he admired you. That’s how we met. Only a well-trained and quite powerful Master vampire can compete with an Angel. You had so much power and so much anger…” I let flashes of this time flood my mind.

My eyes were black, demonic, except the white part was still white. I was reckless and relentless; my head swarming with evil, twisted thoughts. I was a murderer, a hunter and nothing could stop me. Then Leo showed up. Stupid vampire played along, twisted my arm and bound my powers...

“You bound my powers?” I asked, feeling regret well up inside me.

“I had to save you. You left Cicero for a time and wreaked havoc on this realm. You did things we haven’t experienced in a long time, Ever. Your title comes from one specific event though…” I could tell Leo was holding back, his grip on my hand tightened and he looked down, avoiding my eyes.

            “Tell me.”

“I can’t…I have to show you.” Leo lifted two fingers and placed them in the center of my forehead.

Black smoke billowed out of doors and windows of burning houses. The sky was on fire and screams of sheer terror rang through the air. I was walking through the village, my foot prints burning the ground beneath them. I watched the people running, their eyes glowing with fear; I felt their pain, feeding off of it. The adrenaline enticing, I walked to them, where they cowered below me.

“Sshhh, be still Love.” I murmured in a vindictive, enchanting voice. I held my hand out to a man; large, strong and he took my hand.

“Come with me...” I murmured, smiling wickedly at him. My heart was pounding, the satisfaction taking hold of my mind. I kissed him and dragged him along behind me. He didn’t fight, he followed. I brought him to the square of the village and into a trap. A reverse pentagram was tattooed to the ground by goat’s blood.

I kissed the man again, and then brought my lips to his neck. I placed my hands, one on his back, holding him to me and the other on his chest, over his heart. I bit down, sunk my nails deep into his skin. I drank slowly, and put my hand through his chest, removing his heart. I felt his body relax, I drank him dry. I laid his heart in the center of the symbol. I conjured up another meek human, using their blood to fill the silver goblets.

“Ego excieo te. Prodio daemonium. Resigno in porta. Produco in inferos.” My arms were in the air. My voice deep, eyes black and I called out to the demons in Hell.

The ground shook under my feet. I laughed, my eyes glowing with hate and pride. A doorway rose up from the ground, a portal surfacing and the souls filtered through it. Demons, wicked, dark and evil ran through to the world. Then I felt it, a jolt; electric and sharp. I couldn’t move in my own body. I was awake, screaming for help but the demon held fast. I felt my eyes glaze over black. It took control and I felt it as the shocks went to my finger tips. Leo, it has control. Please, please save me. I sent out through the mental link. I felt a pain, a searing burn, as it spread through my body; it felt like my blood was on fire, burning through my flesh. I could feel my breathing slowing as my heart grew weak. I was enveloped in a suffocating, tight hold. There was chanting ringing in my ears. I felt the demon fading.

“Ever? Ever! Get up! Open your eyes. Please…?” The voice was as smooth as satin and like a jolt that kick started my heart. I felt my eyes open and in front of my was an ash covered, beaten and bloody vampire.

“Who are you?” I shakily responded.

“I was…evil?” I thought allowed, and looked at Leo, his amber eyes were light, almost weak.

“Ever, you turned that day; you became so…evil, that a very, very powerful demon took hold of you. We thought we had exorcised it, but we had actually failed. It wants you. It has control over a very powerful force and it will find a way to get to you.” Leo cautioned me, stroking my cheek.

“What did you do, to exorcise it?” I asked, remembering the sensation of my blood boiling my flesh.

“We bound your powers to you using a weapon. Blood Burner is the product of that binding. See, your blood was even potent with your magic and because of the sensation of your burning blood it enchanted the weapon. It can’t affect you now.  It belongs to you.” I nodded, trying to comprehend the information. It was overwhelming. I had to have been extremely powerful to do something like that.

“I want my powers back Leo. I want to be unbound.”

I stood in the center of the pentagram. Candles were lit around me, salt outlining the circle. Figures dressed in robes were around me, on their knees with their hands palm facing the sky. They were chanting ‘Unbind thee’ in Latin. Over and over again. Leo was in front of me, Sam to my left and Cicero at my right. They were each holding an old, black book. Reading out the words in Latin.

“Excieo in magicae de illa lamia. Eam exolvo. Reserassem in sanguis de eam anima. Retribuo in magicae. Absolvo hoc spiritus regio. Permitto in magicae indomitus. Relinquere esse hoc lamia incorruptus. Conflabello in ignis de in anima et sino in flamma de Fae magicae apsorbeo sua. Excieo in magicae de illa lamia. Eam exolvo.” The three chanted, their words meaning: Summon the magic of this witch. Set her free. Unbind the blood of her soul. Set loose the magic. Set free this spirit bound. Give up the magic untamed. Leave this witch untainted. Kindle the fire of the soul and let the flames of Fae magic engulf her. Summon the magic of this witch. Set her free.

I felt a tingling start in my body, my skin felt hot, and there was a feeling of constriction around my body like a snake coiling around and around. My blood was burning. Then it was like a stab to my Soul Spot. I doubled over in pain, falling to the ground on my knees, my arms wrapped around myself. I screamed.  I felt a coolness expand over my skin, the tingling cooling and the constricting stop. I was brought off the ground and was standing, hovering in the air. I opened my tight-shut eyes to see myself engulfed in flames, the colors changing rapidly. Then I was released. The chanting stopped. The room was quiet. Silence hung in the air. I stood up and stared at my palms.

A crimson, gold and violet pentagram was imprinted into the centers of each.

            “Welcome back Dark Angel.”
