Running, I was running again. My legs feeling used, but this time stronger than the rest. My heart was the sound of rolling thunder in my ears, bidding me to silence the sickening roar. Every footfall as my converse slapped against the pavement was another clap loud and threatening in my ears. I could hear him behind me and felt the glow of his eyes like lightening as he blinked through the bitter downpour. The road was soaked and I slipped, landing on my knees. My body jolted with an unseen static shock and I screamed as he bolted towards me.
I opened my eyes to the bed shaking. The room, the entire building. Outside the window I saw a massive spark as lightening roared to life in the blackened sky. Thunder bellowed from the heavens and I sunk down, deep into my bed. The room flashed blue and the trees lit up in blue flames.
“Saaammm!!” I screamed from the corner of my room. In a matter of seconds there was a cloud of black smoke and before me stood my Shadower.
“Ever, what’s wrong?” His eyes were glowing, their soft glow comforting me.
“ The trees….they’re on fire.” I murmured. A pulsing, excruciating heat filtered through my veins and I was overcome by the black before I could even open my mouth to scream.
Cicero stared at me from the corner. His ancient, yellow eyes bore holes into me. he looked…pleased.
“It seems Ever, that you have attracted the attention of a Spinner. Quite lovely, how they weave magic. She is coming for you. And she will do it however she can, but she will have you. Speak to Leo; he may be able to help you harness some power. Anyways, It is a pleasure to see you again. It is also quite lovely that you have finally come home. Now, only you can find me here and when you do, Sweet, only you may raise me from the crypt and awaken me from my slumber. If any were to learn how to bring forth an Angel, surely it would bring about great terror and chaos.” Cicero spoke in his enchanting, manical voice.
“How do I get to the caverns?”
“Just run, Sweet. Just run.”
The dream faded and I found myself clutched in Sam’s arms. He looked down and relief flooded his stormy, blue eyes and a smile played on his lips. He pulled me into him, holding me tighter and his warmth comforted me.
“Sam, I have to speak to Leo. Cicero’s orders.” I looked into his eyes and he nodded. Then taking my hand he led me out of my quarters and into another hall.
The room Mr. Motierre had chosen was somewhat cryptic in style. The walls were made of a dark stone, maybe even just cut rock. It was large and sported a king-sized bed, the sheets dark, almost a blood red. He sat in the back of the room at an old oak desk. He was scribbling into a black leather book.
“So what have you come to learn, Ms. Grace?” His honey-like voice probably would have had me swooning, if I was human. I sucked in a deep breathe, preparing to speak. His smell filled my nose and lungs, and I almost did stumble, except I grabbed onto the bed post for support.
“Please, call me Ever. Everybody else does. I have a request. It’s an order from Cicero. He wants me to seek help in gaining some power? So I was told to ask you. Will you…help me?” I looked towards the ground as I spoke before turning up my head-only to find myself face to face with Leonardo Motierre.
“Yes, I’ll help you. But first you and I have some things to wrap up. And please Ever, call me Leo. There’s no need for formalities between friends; as long as we are friends.” He flashed a smile with his questioning statement.
