I knew I wouldn't like this place. My first day in Florida and I was already being picked on. The fact that it was by a gorgeous boy made it even worse. I was so glad that it was spring break and I didn't have to worry about going to my new school for a week. I was planning on spending my time off in my bed while skyping Jamie, but of course, my mother had other plans for me.
"Ariel!" My mom shouted, "Come here!"
I groaned and melted out of bed. I was supposed to be done packing by now, but the only thing I had set up in my room was my bed. So my room was basically just a ton of boxes scattered around, and a bed that was in dissaray in the middle of the room. I plopped through the hall tiredly to where my mom was lying on the couch with her reading glasses on, reading a book.
"You called?" I said grumpily. Her bright face morphed into a grimace at my tone of voice.
"Your dad is preparing lunch, and then after you eat we are going to get you back in the world, lazy." She said, with her face in her book.
"What do you mean?" I said, really not wanting to go outside again after my embarrassing experience.
A cute little grin formed on her face.
"We're going to the pier carnival!" She said, Her pretty teeth coming into view.
I groaned dramatically. Why the f.uck did she think that I'd want to go to some stupid carnival?
"No way in hell." I said giving her a serious look.
"Ariel, language!" My dad shouted from the kitchen. He was wearing his favorite apron. I didn't know why he was, considering the fact that all he was making was Kraft mac and cheese.
"I'm not going to some stupid carnival where I don't know anybody at all!" I whined. My mom sighed.
"How do you expect to meet new people when you don't ever come out of your bedroom? I bet there will be a ton of kids your age there." She said with her book propped up on her knee. "Get ready, you're going if you like it or not."
***
I really didn't want to go to this stupid carnival, I mean who builds rides on a pier? But my mom was right. Maybe there were going to be some cool people there. Or maybe the hot curly-haired boy will be there, my subconcious butted in. No way in hell, he was a dick, stop thinking about that guy! I argued in my head.
"Ariel! Are you ready?" My mom called.
"Y-yeah, just give me a second." I shouted back. I applied the last wing to my eyelids and checked myself in the mirror. I was wearing my high-waisted shorts and simple white cami-croptop. I put on my favorite gold moon choker and twisted my dark brown hair into a long braid going down my back. "Okay! I'm ready now!"
***
My mom was right about there being a ton of kids my age there, but none of them seemed nice at all. Plus, I looked like a total 5 year old with my parents practically holding my hand walking with me through the place.
"See Ari? It isn't that bad." My mom said with her usual positive attitude. I forced a smile to make her feel good, but inside I wanted run to the side of the boardwalk and jump the f.uck off of it.
