I spread out all my notes once I to the table and take a moment to glance over a couple sheets so I know where I left off the day before.
"What are you starting with kid?"
"Uhh I think I'm gonna start with developing the web fluid that way I have a," I look up for a second before continuing, "um a starting point for the hard part."
Mr. Stark looks back over to me and replies, "that's probably a good idea. Do you know what the web is made of?"
"Yeah see the problem is I don't know." I take a small breath before I continue, "Originally I thought silk because spiders use silk but it wouldn't be strong enough and then I started thinking about synthetic silk but that isn't strong enough.
"I could try to increase the gigapascals though because the synthetic silk only has .875 and that would increase the strength. And all of this work is only important if his web fluid isn't, like, I don't know, coming out of him?""That's rather pleasant to think about, thanks."
"Right! It would sorta be cool and definitely weird but that would open a lot of doors into what other powers he has and how much of it is modeled directly after a spider, plus what all happened to him for him to become Spider-Man? Was it because of an accident or was he experimented on? Lots of problems either way for different reason."
I looked up while taking a deep breath and saw Mr. Stark sitting and listening intently. Right before I started to talk he interjected with a couple of his own thoughts.
"Oh wow, how long have you been working on this? But you're right no matter how he has powers could result in problems because if it was an accident there's no telling what happened to result in that which could definitely have extreme side effects if it were something that needs to have been treated and that could affect his health and even life span tremendously.
"And if it were a result of experimentation then it would be a question of morals and how it was done. Especially if it were done illegally or without Spider-Man's permission of sorts.""Yeah, but back to the web fluid. Last night I started thinking about how if he were to have to change the synthetic silk then why wouldn't he start almost from scratch in order to get the best results for his purpose?"
"Yeah kid, I don't actually know if I'm supposed to help with the intern project but, if you're not against it I could focus on modifying the synthetic silk if you want to work from scratch? Lab time is lab time and I'm curious now."
"I'd love that!! Thank you so much Mr. Stark!"
"Of course kid, I can't risk losing my favorite intern after all."
I laugh for a second before saying, "I'm your only intern, which means I'm your least favorite as well."
"I stand by what I said," he raised his arms up as if surrendering before walking back to his work space, "Just remember you're the one that said you're my least favorite, not me."
I read one of my pages of notes I had before looking around for Toulene because I remember how distinctive that smell was, if it smelled like the web fluid then I would know I was on the right track and shouldn't be working on the synthetic silk.
Y'all, I don't know who y'all is because I'm literally thinking to myself, but I feel like I'm in a movie. I'm literally faking rediscovering web-fluid like I'm not the one blowing off my chem class to make it using school supplies. Also it's sorta fun kinda reverse engineering my own project and since I have the time to research and develop without having to take a test I might be able to improve it.
I grab a red folder and write on it with blue sharpie because of Spider-Man colors and sit down.
And then I stand up because I have to go find the toulene and I have no idea where it is.
