The last day of summer snuck up on the students of Hogwarts. It was the day students said goodbye to freedom and carefree Mondays and hello to back-to-school shopping and annoying alarm clocks. Hermione took this day to recheck her shopping lists. Almost magically, all but one item remained unchecked. She had actually forgotten the buy one of her textbooks. Hermione never forgot anything. Being as serious as a heart attack about her education, Hermione didn't hesitate to get dressed and call Luna to take her down to the best bookstore in town, Ollivander's. She just put on a pair of dark blue jeans, a long-sleeved top, converse sneakers and put her hair into a low ponytail.
"Good morning, Hermione." her mother, Jane, greeted her. In a rush to get to the store, as it always closed early on Sundays like this, Hermione ran down the stairs and said, "Morning, mom. Morning Dad. Going to the bookstore with Luna. I'll be back quickly. Love you!" Hermione hugged each parent before she left the house and met Luna in her dad's car outside her house. "Hey, Luna." she greeted her friend. Luna returned the greeting and Hermione went on to address Mr Lovegood. "Good day, Hermione. Luna tells me you want to go to Ollivander's," he said. "Yes, if it's not too much trouble. My parents have to go to work today." she explained. "None at all," Mr Lovegood replied. "Ollivander's is my way to the flower shop anyways. You see my Zinnias are very close to blooming and usually, this is the season they're bought the most."
After driving the short route to Ollivander's bookstore, Mr Lovegood parked behind a clean, blood-red Tesla Roadster and dropped the girls off. Upon entering the store, Hermione found one of her favourite places far less crowded than usual. She saw one or two faces from school and made haste to hurry, just in case she ended up seeing a face that she didn't want to be too familiar with. The girl walked into the book-filled store and to the counter to see Ollivander finishing up with a customer. "Hello there, Hermione," Ollivander greeted his most frequent customer. "What new book are you here for?"
Hermione offered the kind, old man a smile and told him of the school book she needed for her science class. And as Ollivander went to retrieve the text, Luna Lovegood eyes began to scan the store. They were caught at a hold when her pupils caught sight of a teenage boy with the great, green eyes of her favourite author/publisher, messy dark hair, a charming smile and round glasses. It was bloody Harry Potter. And next to him was Ronald Weasley, her dream guy. Here, in the best bookstore around, was her crush and the closest thing to meeting her idol. This was the best day of her life.
Eager and impatient, Luna pulled Hermione's arm without warning and towards a series of bookshelves closed to the two best friends. "Luna!"
"Shh!"
Luna discreetly pointed to the famous boy-who-lived and the red-head next to him. The girl released a silent gasp at the sight. "Is that..." she trailed off. "Yep." Luna replied without the need for Hermione to finish her question. Hermione saw him. She saw her first crush. She saw the boy that almost every girl in her school would date without needing to be asked. She saw a guy who had lost so much so young now smiling, though, more with his mouth than his eyes. But more than all of that, she saw the hottest guy she'd ever been in the same room as. From his messy, dark chocolate hair to his gorgeous, green eyes, from the dimples in his cute and charming smile to his serious, thick eyebrows, down to the young man's tall, lean body that showed through his long-sleeved, grey top. When Hermione looked at him, he held in his hands a stack of books that were all too familiar to her. They were all school books from her list. With the glasses, face, body and books, he looked like a hot teacher or some kind of sexy librarian.
"Crap." Hermione swore under her breath. "Now who's fangirling?" Luna teased as the young Ms Granger licked her lips unknowingly. "Okay. So what if he's hot? There are plenty of cute guys from school and around the world." Hermione argued to save her pride. But no argument could save her after that moment.
