"And?"
"And what?"
"And what are we going to do now?"
I was already expecting this question and answered with a slight grin that I didn't care as long as she was by my side.
"Then let's go to the aquarium" we both said at the same time, but with different emotions.
"What the hell! ...what was that?" she wondered, visibly confused, how I knew what she was going to say.
"How did you..."
In all fairness, her response was so predictable that even if I wasn't in a situation like this, there would be a pretty high chance that I would have known where she wanted to go.
That girl was obsessed with anything to do with water, be it the ocean or the animals that live in it. It was kinda cute."Just a guess, soulmate shit and stuff like that."
"Aha" was all Lia had to add to my flimsy excuse. But hey, what else should I've said to make myself sound more believable?
"So, you're down with my suggestion?"
"Yep~."
Granted, I've been to the aquarium with her for the past couple of days. Sometimes I've even tried to change fate by avoiding that specific location, but in the end it was nothing but an pretty unimportant event so it didn't matter whether we go or not.
"Then what are you waiting for? Get moving" she ordered in a strange voice that she only used whenever she was trying to be funny, but ironically for her, it came across as more of an adorable antic than something meant to be entertaining.
But who cares? I ,for example, didn't."At your command, sir!"
°
"Hey, Look at that!"
"I'm sorry, but what am I supposed to see?"
"Are you blind? Look closely."
And so I did, but to no avail. Apart from a few random animals and fish that I couldn't name to save my life, I didn't find anything special.
"Hm, I still don't know what you mean."
"Stop being like that. Do you see that tiny fish over there? It's almost as pretty as you" she teased as she pointed to the ugliest thing I've ever seen.
Oh, how much I loved it whenever she insulted me."No way. That's a fish? I genuinely thought that it was your reflection."
"You little-"
"Whatever you're going to say, just remember that I'm taller than you."
"..."
"...?!"
"..."
°
"Come on,... again? Another one?" I muttered inaudibly as the familiar dizziness hit me. Those flashbacks are starting to get really annoying.
I mean, okay, there's no shame in admitting that I'm obviously not a good person, but that didn't mean I deserved any of this.
Was there even a good reason for my suffering or did I have to go through all of this just because? If there was such a thing as a higher being, or if there were more than just one, I undoubtedly felt abandoned by those who were out there playing with me and my life like I was a mindless doll.
"Are you done spacing out or do you need another minute?" Lia mocked me in a rather cynical way.
"No, I'm alright. Let's go."
°
"What exactly do you like about me?"
"Depends."
"What do you mean? Depends on what?"
"Whether I'm supposed to be honest or not."
"Welp, that sounds logical."
"And?, do you want to hear the truth or the romantic version?"
"The truth"
"I like ..."
Suddenly everything went black.
