I sat alone in my chair, rolling my pen between my fingers. The living room was filled with the noises coming from my computer. The TV was playing a funny video that I remembered from a while ago. It should have made me laugh, but nothing really sparked in me. It was getting worse. I had started to feel completely numb. I was having trouble finding joy in anything after that fateful day. A computerised voice came on the speakers.

"Sir, it's been several hours. Don't you think you should be doing something productive?" the robotic voice asked.

"Like what, Rohnson? Give me SOMETHING to do." I asked, rubbing my eyes.

"I do try, sir. But you refuse to try anything I suggest."

Rohnson was right. I barely bothered with trying new things in life anymore. I can't do anything without ruining it for myself. Things were so much simpler back when I was younger. I began to think back to ten years ago when I was just finishing high school. I was going through life and I was... bored. I wanted to live an extraordinary life, have a true purpose that will fulfil me in the end, but nothing seemed to satisfy me. I had become disappointed by the limited options in my average life.

I remember walking home from school one day and being stopped by a mysterious man. When he took off his hood and sunglasses I realised that he looked exactly like me. At the time I didn't know what was happening. The man was acting paranoid and hectic.

"I know about your little dream." he said to me "I can give you more power than you could ever imagine. It will give you the means to live an extraordinary life like you want!"

I remember not having the words to respond to what this doppelganger was offering me. It all hit me so suddenly.

"You want it, don't you?!? Take it from me!!" the more he spoke the more frantic he became.

Flustered, I accepted and he pulled a glowing amethyst-like crystal from out of his chest causing him to grunt in pain. As I looked at the gem it seemed to call to me, entrancing me with its power. The gem floated out of the man's hand and jammed itself into my heart, filling me with psychokinetic energy. The man ran away ecstatically. I remember as I passed out from the overload, hearing him laugh to himself.

"I'm finally free! They have nothing on me now!" I heard him shout as my senses faded.

I remember waking up and learning that I had extranormal powers. I used it to become a sort of superhero in my hometown, but that didn't last long. Why can't I be as happy as I was then?

"Can you show me the job list?" I said, snapping out of my flashback.

A display of open contracts came on the monitor. Each one was a unique mission that would definitely fetch a pretty penny upon completion. I scrolled through looking for one that might interest me. One of which was a demon hunt in Realm: 40072. It looked interesting enough to do. I've been on plenty of demon hunts. They're usually not too hard to do, but each one is different from the last. I hopped off the couch and went to the study to grab my gear. I grabbed all of the usual tools and articles I take with me going on any errand.

-My purple waistcoat, woven by fairies from the forests of Azdrea.

-My star patterned cape given to me by my..... by an old friend.

-My enchanted revolver.

-My black magic gloves

-My Riftwatch

-My wallet

-And other little tools just in case anything bad happens along the way.

I got ready and uploaded the realm data to my watch. I dialled in the destination and transported myself to that dimension. For those of you who haven't guessed, I am what is called a "multiversal explorer". I traverse through the multiverse doing jobs for the interdimensional agency, B.U.R.N.E.
