"Doctor!" Anne-Marie shouted as she ran back into the Tardis, water following in after her.
"Close the door! Close the door!" He cried out as the water washed down the steps. Anne-Marie shut it quickly. "Oh you're all wet." He cried out touching the sleeve of her shirt. Even the ends of her hair were wet.
"It's taking on water too quickly. We have to get them out." Anne-Marie said tightening her grip on his arm. He arched an eyebrow at her.
"You knew this would happen didn't you? My nice submarine!" He cried out. Anne-Marie rolled her eyes at him.
"That's not the point. Come on. We have to get Dr. Zarcouski and convince him to abandon ship!" Anne-Marie said pulling him back toward the door. "Something tells me he's going to be the hardest to convince." She murmured opening the door. The Doctor quickly followed behind her.
The were moving as quickly as they could through the ankle high water of the hallways. There were sailors running back and forth around them but they were all shouting too many things at once too be understood.
"This way!" Anne-Marie said pulling the Doctor down a less crowded area. The Doctor followed but at the end of the hallway, something was dragging themselves along the ground. Anne-Marie stopped walking.
"What in the world." The Doctor whispered. It was one of the mermaids. It was pulling itself along the floor, its tail making flopping and splashing noises behind it. Anne-Marie just stared at it. The mermaid grinned, and charged. They turned and ran. "Moves pretty fast for something that doesn't have legs!" The Doctor cried out as he looked back at the sharp toothed, scaly creature.
"Here!" Anne-Marie shouted throwing open a door. They quickly shut it behind them and the mermaid let out a loud hiss. Breathing deeply they turned around and sighed, relieved to have lost it but when they turned, there was a mermaid in here as well, draining a sailor of its blood.
It hadn't noticed them yet, as its back was turned but as the mermaid drained the sailors blood Anne-Marie and the Doctor watched as it made the mermaid look younger, more human too. "What now?" Anne-Marie whispered to the Doctor. They could hear the other mermaid on the other side of the door banging on it, trying to get in and the mermaid in front of them was almost done with the sailor.
"Mermaid behind us, mermaid in front of us." The Doctor murmured. "This certainly isn't a Diseny movie." He continued grabbing up a broom from the corner.
"What are you going to do with that?" Anne-Marie demanded. The mermaid finished draining the sailor.
"Just open the door when I tell you to okay?"
"Open the door?" Anne-Marie demanded. The mermaid turned. It was beautiful. With its long blond hair and nearly human like skin. Anne-Marie felt sick. She had drained that from the sailor.
"Yes." The Doctor said, covering his eyes. The mermaid must have been doing something to him. "Open it!" He cried out. The mermaid charged. With a yank of the door Anne-Marie opened it, letting in the second mermaid who ran in. The Doctor hit it with the broom like it as a baseball and sent her crashing into the other mermaid. They growled and hissed in protest. "Out, out, out!" The Doctor said pointing at the door and dropping the broom.
"I'm out!" Anne-Marie said grabbing him quickly before slamming the door shut behind them. "Can they open doors?" She asked quietly as they heard it lock.
"Who knows. Let's not wait around to find out. Let's find Dr. Zarcouski." Anne-Marie nodded. This would not be pleasant for the Dr.
"We can't leave! We can't just abandon ship! What about my research? What about the mermaids? This is so fascinating! Have you seen what they can do? Absolutely horrifying I can agree but so extraordinary how they drain the essence of man! Don't you agree?" Dr. Zarcouski asked as he ran around his lab.
