CHAPTER 26
Normal POV
The snowfall outside had stop but the thick snow that covers the ground was still there though it was not a struggle for Natsu and his other members to get to the abandoned town. They made their way there in silence, but it's more like the two girls were the one who's giving them the silent treatment. Happy would occasionally start the conversation, hoping to ease the unwanted mood from his friends and Lily would back him up. But it'll always end so quick, they'd only get a response from either Gajeel or Xavier but not from the four. Especially not from the blonde and the water mage.
They understand it though, Juvia and Lucy must be drowning in their own thoughts while Natsu and Gray are just not in the mood to joke around, probably trying their best to be more sensitive with the girls as well. Reading between the lines, Xavier knew that the uncomfortable atmosphere around the four has came back. It wasn't that hard for Gajeel to figure that out too, of course, judging from how Juvia remained by his side the whole day and how Lucy let the men walk ahead of her. This awkward air that surrounds them has been there even before they left the guild but unfortunately, it worsen right after what happened in the house that they've just gone through.
"We're close." Xavier's serious voice broke the silence. "Don't let your guards down."
Upon announcing that, the rest of his guild mates straighten their composures. Xavier was leading them and he was more than thankful he had worn his dark gray coat reaching down to his feet, black tight-fitting shirt tucked under a cargo pants and a pair of black boots for he was sure he can't survive the cold.
Not the coldness of the weather but the coldness he felt around his friends, specifically from the celestial mage, fire dragon slayer, water mage, and the ice mage.
If he wasn't sensitive about the situation he would've told this thought to Gajeel and laugh their asses out.
It wasn't that long 'till they finally reached their destination. The frown in their faces was evident as they look around. Although the town was covered with snow, they can still clearly see how ghosted it is. It wasn't as big as any of the towns in Fiore but they've heard from the Master that this used to be a small but lively place. The streets were empty and lonely, only silence were drifting through the dark alleys. They were thankful enough for the moon to show itself tonight for there were no source of light in the town.
"You smell anything, Natsu?" Happy asked, his eyes kept looking around.
"What? You mean food?"
His comrades stopped to give him a look.
"I-I mean none!"
As they scan the place they remained careful with their actions. Enemies might be lurking around.
"You think our other guild mates had made it here?" Xavier asked, sighing.
It wasn't like they don't trust them or anything, heck they even want to go back as soon as they found out what happened. The look of hesitations in them made Xavier speak up, reminding them that they have to carry on with this mission. But he'd be lying if he'll say that he's not worried sick.
"I have no trace of their scents yet." Gajeel answered.
Broken woods and glasses from every house in the town were scattered like they were an evidence that some kind of attack has happened. They took a break from roaming around to catch some breath. Even after leaving earlier, they hadn't took any break.
Lucy sat on the nearest large rock from her and fixed her gaze in a distance. She was hoping that everything would end soon. Losing her daughter and at the same time two of her valuable celestial spirits just drains her. She doesn't know where to start anymore.
