Sorry for keeping ya'll waiting for so long, you guys T-T

Dinner was very awkward for the first time in a long time. Normally, the small room had a delightful atmosphere, keeping everyone-including doctor O'Brien, the old fart of the group-in a relatively good mood. Now the walls seemed to be closing in.

Michael and his brother Matthew sat next to each other with the rest of the crew sitting a few seats away. It almost looked like they had a disease and everyone decided it'd be best to stay away from them. Even Jeremy decided to keep to himself.

It wasn't because the crew was mad at Michael. They were precautious of anyone waltzing into the bunker after being on the surface for prolonged intervals. Not only that, but Matthew looked suspicious enough without any of the ongoing rumors that he was conspiring with the Squips.

Not for nothing, but Matthew was in the middle of a swarm of Squips and wasn't even looked at. Any person would've been turned into a Squip. Yet there he was, having a civil conversation with Michael.

Not that it was a pleasant conversation.

"Why is everyone glaring at me?" He asked Michael. "Well, as I told you before, I think they're just being cautious. Who could blame them? You are hella suspicious, bro," Michael sighed, stirring his spoon in his lukewarm canned tomato soup.

"Doesn't mean I have bad intentions," Matthew sighed, scratching his stumbled chin. "Not to mention that I'm here to help you guys out," He added. "How so? It's been months. There's no service, no wifi. The government couldn't help us because of the barrier Y/N set up to prevent travel by boat. The bridges were blown up, the subway stopped working and no one is allowed in or out..." Michael trailed off.

"You work for the government, there's a barrier to keep ferries away, the subway stopped working and all the bridges are demolished. How'd you get in?" He suddenly asked as if it was the last thing on his mind.

"Simple. Through the underground," Matthew answered. "But the subway-" "The subway stopped and the bastards blew up most of the tunnels but we managed to clear one up. They sent me as a representative to see how bad the situation had gotten. And... It's bad." Matthew sighed.

"So bad, in fact, that I can't even go back to report my observations," Matthew explained. "How so?" Michael asked. "The tunnel of which I came out of, has been blocked off yet again. And this time, it was rather... Permanent," Matthew sighed, trailing off.

"What happened?"

"It's gone."

"What's gone? Did they block it off?"

"No. It's just gone."

"What do you mean gone?"

"They plugged the entire tunnel with cement," Matthew finally said. "They did what?" Michael asked. "Between the time I arrived and the time I was planned to head back, they plugged a long-ass tunnel with cement. It's impenetrable,"

"H-How... How long have you been stuck here?" Michael asked, black dots creeping around his vision. "A month. I was planned to go for a week," Matthew said. "They couldn't have plugged a tunnel that large in a week!" Michael said raising his voice, catching everyone's attention.

"Erm... Michael, what are you talking about?" Jeremy asked from his seat, slightly straightening his back. "I just-" But Michael shook his head to stop himself. "It's nothing," He eventually said. "Are you sure?" Jeremy asked which made dr. O'Brien look up as well. "Michael, can we talk for a second?" O'Brien asked very flatly. "Take your brother with you," He said, standing up, not wasting any time.

Michael hesitated for a second as he looked at Matthew. By the time they stood up, O'Brien was already in the hall. Jeremy followed behind but when he exited the dinner hall, O'Brien sent him back. "Tell the others we'll be back in a minute and keep everyone calm," O'Brien told Jeremy. "If anything worth discussing comes up, I'll inform you immediately," He said.

"Ya'll kinda sus," Jeremy said. "Go distract them with your hilarious stand-up act," O'Brien said mockingly. "Excuse me?" Jeremy asked, narrowing his eyes. "Go," O'Brien said, calm as ever. With a sigh and a glance toward the brothers, Jeremy went back inside.

"Hey."

"Hey hey,"

"Hey, can you wake up?"

"I can't keep controlling everything while you sleep and do nothing,"

Squip tapped the edge of his finger against Y/N's cheek. It felt like TV-static. Rolling her eyes back, she opened her eyes with some effort. "Where..." The sudden memories flooded her mind. "You," She mumbled, looking up at the figure looking down at her.

With all her might she stood up. Last she remembered, she was floating in darkness, tied up with thick cables. Stuck in her own mind. Now she was untied. No cables. Come to think of it, this wasn't a black void either. It was a room. A normal room like any other. Bed, closet, and even a shelf for books. There was a wooden door diagonally from the bed.

Even though there was a bed, she was laying on the floor. She looked back at the figure and then stumbled over her own legs trying to crawl away. "You're very elegant, huh?" She looked through her hair and saw the Squip look at her, hands behind his back.

"I can't really blame you since you've been sleeping for a long time," He said approaching her and grabbing her by the collar of her T-shirt. "Was that on purpose or was that a side-effect of the sudden change in your mind?" He pondered tugging it, making her fall over. Trying to keep herself off the floor by her elbows, she looked up.

"By the by," He said, letting go of her. "That door is locked and won't open," He said crouching down beside her and pointing at the wooden door. "Try to your heart's content to force it open if you're bored," He said smiling down at her.

With wide eyes, she started sneering: "You think this is funny?"

"I don't think anything is funny. I'm an AI,"

"Get out of my head!" She shrieked. "I can get out of your mind palace but I can't get out of your head," He told her. "Then get out of my...Wait. This is my mind palace?" Y/N mumbled looking around the small room. "Why is it so...tiny?" She asked and looked back up. But he wasn't there anymore.
