"Michael, you've had great ideas. This is not one of them," Jeremy said as he tried to reason with Michael who was on the verge of opening the hatch to go outside. "As I said, there's a person up there who isn't walking like a spider. I'm going to talk to them," Michael said as he put on a face mask to cover his mouth as it was awfully dusty above ground. "Yes, but this is dangerous," Jeremy argued. "Well, better in danger than sorry," Michael shrugged and unlocked the hatch. "That's not how the saying goes-" But Jeremy's words faded into the wind as the hatch opened and Michael poked his head out. Underground seemed so much livelier than the surface. Aside from all the Squips roaming around and attacking the civilians, nature had been sucked dry from the lack of oxygen and water. The amount of energy used on a daily basis by Y/N could've been a factor to that, but no one really knew.

Michael slowly pushed himself up and closed the hatch behind him. He threw some dry leaves on the hatch to cover it up and walked away. Obviously he didn't have a plan. He had a few people on stand-by in case things got messy but that was that. The person stood in the middle of a colony of Squips making it ten times harder to approach them. Luckily, Michael didn't have to think about that because the person had turned around and slowly noticed Michael standing there.

Still on the phone, too far to identify the stranger in the distance, they mumbled a few words before ending the call. Michael adjusted his crimson jacket a bit. Maybe he felt a bit nervous. From afar, the person in the distance clearly looked like a man. The long coat he was wearing danced a bit in the wind as he tucked his phone away and slowly started approaching Michael. Unsure of what to do, Michael put his hands in his pockets where he had a compact steel baton hidden inside. (Everyone underground had one of those for protection.)

But as the man approached, Michael could examine his face better. It was one he recognized. "Mat?" He slowly mumbled before the guy halted a few feet before him, pulled out a gun and pointed it toward Michael. "Wow, wow, wow!" Michael almost shrieked, throwing his hands up in the air. "Matthew, it's me!"

The guy narrowed his green eyes a bit. "Who are you?" He asked. "Seriously?" Michael almost yelled but grew quieter when he heard a click coming from the gun. "Who are you?" The guy asked again. "Michael," Slowly but surely, Matthew lowered his gun to take a closer look at Michael. But when he approached, Michael stepped back a bit.

"Dude," Mat suddenly said and tucked his gun away. "What are you doing here?!" He barked at Michael. "Now is not the time to point fingers. What are YOU doing here?!" Michael yelled back. "No, no, no! I'm older than you! Your a$$ shouldn't even be here! I thought you changed schools!" Matthew said stepping forward and poking Michael in the chest. "Well, if you'd check up on me more, you'd know that I didn't send the application and went to a school in New Jersey instead!" Michael yelled and pushed Matthew. "You know I have a lot of work to do!" Matthew yelled back.

"I know but I missed you!"

Michael looked down as Matthew stared at him. "You f*cking idiot," He finally sighed and threw his arms around Michael, embracing him in a tight hug. "I missed you too," Matthew said before Michael hugged him back.

"He's been gone for half an hour. I think it's time that we should-" "Leave the kid alone. He knows what he's doing." Doctor O'Brien told Jeremy as he added some kind of liquid into a vial with more liquid.  "You seem awfully relaxed knowing that our leader, AKA the person who manages everything down here, hasn't returned yet," Jeremy mumbled. "That's right. He is our leader and thus he knows what he's doing-" O'Brien said before they heard the door of the emergency room open.

Michael looked inside making eye contact with Jeremy who was staring daggers into his soul. "YOU. MORON." Jeremy shrieked at Michael as he stood up from his chair.

"Do you have ANY idea how concerned I was?! Even O'Brien was worried about you!" He yelled at Michael. "I wasn't," O'Brien clarified without turning around as he stirred the vail with a stick. "I was worried about you!" Jeremy corrected himself.

"You can't just open a hatch and disappear in the middle of a war! You could've died or even worse turned into a mindless Squip!" Jeremy kept screaming at his friend until Michael coughed and opened the door a bit wider revealing another person. "And what would we do then?! Eat dirt and worms for the rest of the war-" When Jeremy noticed the guy, he shut his mouth.

"Who's that?" He asked Michael. "Jeremy, doctor O'Brien, meet Matthew Mell. My brother." Michael slowly said. Jeremy kind of just stared at Matthew and O'Brien finally turned around. "Your brother? From New York?" Jeremy asked, still staring at Matthew. "Yes! He was in Jersey when the incident happened and somehow the Squips haven't been attacking him. He wandered about and tried to contact someone outside Jersey. However, now he's here!" Michael smiled.

Both Jeremy and O'Brien looked at each other for a second. "That's great, Michael," Jeremy finally said. "I'll get him settled in one of the rooms so we can catch up. We'll see you at dinner!" Michael smiled and closed the door as if he was in a hurry.

"That's strange. Why didn't the Squips attack him?" Jeremy asked O'Brien. "We're going to find that out as soon as we get to talk to him," O'Brien said and turned back around to work on his mixture while Jeremy kept staring at the door.
