"What's that?" Y/N asked as she pointed toward the newly formed metal door in her mind palace. "It's a gift," Squip smiled, fumbling his hands behind his back. "Assuming that I'll ever let you out of here," He said, making Y/N look away. "I'd want you to at least know what's been happening," He said.
With a frown, Y/N looked at the door. It was a very simple door; smooth, polished. You could see your own reflection. "Go in there whenever you'd like," Squip smiled before fading away like static. Almost like he'd never been there.
She stared at it, debating whether this was just a trap. However, knowing there was not much to do in this room besides read the three or so books on the shelf, she walked towards it and cracked it open. It was dark in there. So much so that she couldn't see anything. Pushing it open a bit wider, she saw a white light source. The room was dark, covered in black carpet, and painted in black paint. The singular light source came from a projector that hung from above to cast a completely white image on one of the walls.
She went in and the door automatically shut behind her. The sound was loud enough to make her jump. Quickly, she hurried back and checked to see if the door was still open.
It was. But just about when she wanted to get the hell out of there, an image was being projected on the wall. The blue tones reflected on the door. With tense shoulders and a racing heart, she looked over her shoulder.
An apocalyptic scene.
That's what popped into her mind when she looked at the windows of a building that looked like it had been bombed. Not enough to fully take it down, but surely enough to kill hundreds. Thousands. Her knees felt weak. But that wasn't the worst thing she would see.
Soon after the image started playing, something started moving. Upon closer inspection, the image was actually footage. Y/N squinted her eyes to see an entourage of people. No. Not people. What were they?
A group of what seemed people walked around clumsily. Their eyes glowing, blue veins popping out of their cheeks and arms. Some walked, some stumbled, some crawled. It all seemed forced. It was as if somehow someone was forcing each of their limbs to move. As if they had been paralyzed and forced to move. The closer they came towards what Y/N could only presume to be a camera, the more she heard. Their movement sounded like bones being ever so slightly bent. She thought it couldn't get worse but then a loud crack made her jump. It followed by other cracks, but none of the people stopped moving.
This time, Y/N did fall onto her knees. They passed the camera and kept walking out of sight. The sudden urge to vomit welled up inside her. But she couldn't. She didn't even have an immune system. The sick feeling remained even after the scene changed.
The next few hours, Y/N spent looking at footage. She inspected the circumstances, having to look away at times. The feeling of disgust and horror paled in comparison to guilt. Not only that she allowed a Squip to invade her body and allowed him access to the rest of the world, but also that she'd rather stay in her mind palace after seeing this.
A coward. That's what she was. A total coward.
