Grosvenor Square, January 1814 Seven months
Anthony never cried. Never.
So when Violet entered the house, and saw her son sitting in-front of the staircase, his face hidden by his arms, she panicked.
Neither of the two spoke. She simply grabbed her eldest, and pulled him into her, trying her best to comfort him, but with his wife's screams, he couldn't stop the tears.
He felt as if he was in a nightmare, praying he would awaken, and Nola would just be asleep in his arms. Their child healthy and continuously growing.
He blamed himself. A sudden shout for him caused him to jolt up, and Violet to jump in surprise. "My lord!" Marie yelled, meeting Anthony halfway, out of breath. She stuttered, "Nola is awake!" Anthony released a sigh of relief.
His gaze moved to his mother, who held her hand to her heart, looking as if she was thanking God; but before they could let out another thought, a blood curdling scream came from the upstairs bedroom. "Anthony!" He heard, and began running. "Anthony, please!" The girl continued to shout, the pain taking over her completely.
"Titus, what is happening?" Anthony questioned, running to his wife's side as she began heaving.
"I believe she may have broken a rib, from the fall off of the horse. Her body never showed any bruising, so we had no reason to believe there was anything wrong." Anthony felt Nola grip his hand, and begin grasping it tighter and tighter. "The pain she is enduring is from the expansion of her womb, pressing against the rib cage." Anthony nodded, pained to even look at her.
She had grown pale. She looked sickly.
"We're trying to check if there's any sign of crowning, but have so far come by empty." Titus sighed, saddened by the pain the woman was going through, with no way to end it in sight. "Lord Bridgerton... may I speak to you in the hall?"
Anthony kissed his wife's temple, before Violet moved to tend to the girl.
Shutting the door, Anthony instantly began, "is our baby going to live?"
"That seems to be the only good news I have for you, at this moment, my lord." The man looked down, "while examining her, we found lacerations around her stomach, thighs... and genitalia." Anthony's head shot up, his eyes narrowing from the newly found information.
