"Get down," I whisper-shouted. My knuckles were white as I clenched onto my rifle, my eyes glued onto the same spot where I had seen the movement just seconds ago. The ammunition Scott was carrying clinked against his rifle as he moved briskly over to a fallen tree, his boots thudding on the dry dirt beneath him one after the other.

"Where did it go?" After we hauled ourselves behind the tree the creature, or human, had gone.

"Fuck, it's gone," I hurdled over the fairly large tree, "let's go over there to see what it was." I signalled for Scott to follow as I moved over to the rock where I last saw the movement. I kept my steps slow and cautious as I neared the rock, gripping my rifle impossibly tight.

My breathing quickened when I reached the rock, heart pounding a thousand times a second. Even though I've done this plenty of times before it still felt like the first every time. My mind filled with grave thoughts of what might happen when I turn the corner, it could be a walker that is ready to slurp up my flesh, yes, but at the same time it could be a dangerous man ready to beat the shit out of me, or blow my brains out with a bullet.

All these thoughts seemed to fly away as I swiftly turned the corner, Scott backing me up.

There, right in front of my eyes, was absolutely nothing. It was as if it just disappeared while we were making our way over here. "What the fuck?" I looked around me in confusion, Scott doing the same. "It couldn't have gone that far in such a short amount of time. Especially if it was a walker." I began walking around the giant rock and looking in the distance.

"Don't worry about h- it..." My head spun around to look at Scott, narrowing my eyes at him. Was he about to say 'her' before he corrected himself? "What?" He blinked at me with a hint of confusion spread on his pale face while I stared at him with my brows furrowed and my lips pouted, still narrowing my eyes. Something was odd about him but I shrugged it off even though my slight suspicion remained.

"Do you want to keep searching for the thing or continue looking for survivors from the raid?" We were slowly walking towards the lake which Scott had told me about before we got distracted earlier. I wanted to look for the thing and find out what it was but I knew we had to search for any survivors before sundown, which was approaching fast.

"Whatever was there before is gone now so there's no need to worry about it." Scott looked at me attentively, his dark brown eyes burning a hole through the side of my head. "We will look for more survivors until it gets dark, then we can camp out somewhere." He nodded and turned his attention to the dirt underneath our feet as we walked.

I sighed. "Whats wrong?" Scott wasn't his usual energetic, chirpy self. I picked up a small stick and threw it ahead of us while i waited for his answer.

A whole three minutes have passed since I asked him. I thought I wasnt going to get an answer until I heard him exale a deep breath. "It's just... I miss my little sister. Not knowing where she is or if she's alive or not is destroying me inside, but I have a feeling she's okay." I looked over at him to see an almost unnoticeable tear make its way down his dirt covered face and onto his chin where it fell and splashed onto the barrel of his rifle. He averted his attention from the ground and slightly turned his head to look at me in the eyes. I gave him a sympathetic smile and lightly punched his arm.

"I'm sure she's fine, she's fifteen for Gods sake." He gave me a half-hearted smile that didn't reach his eyes. "Dakota is a strong girl, Scott." There was a long silence after I said that, so I looked up at the sky to see bright red, orange and yellow colours as the sun slowly fell to meet the horizon.

"She's not the only thing i'm worried about..." I turned my head back to him.

"Don't worry about anything else, you are alive and that's what matters most." I tried to make him forget about everything for the moment so he doesn't get stressed out more than he already is.

"I'm trying to think of it that way but with my sister missing and the camp burned down and the girl i-"

I interrupted him before he said anything else. "What girl?"

"I... uhh... the r-rock b-before... I... shit..."

I paused dead in my tracks, eyes glued to Scotts guilty looking face. "What do you mean?" My voice was louder now and I became anxious.

"I saw a girl, Michael."
