Nothing.

I felt nothing.

I don't why I felt this way but when I heard what Scott said I just couldn't help it. The girl could have been part of the slaughter of my camp and now she's gone, running further and further away from where I stood.

The seconds ticked by, from the time he said those five simple words that made my body freeze and mind to whirl with different scenarios of what might have happened if I caught her.

"Michael I-"

"Don't." I continued to collect pieces of bark, dead leaves and other flammable materials for our small fire before nightfall. "Look." His head snapped up and his eyes flickered to the old, run-down car I was pointing at. "Go check for anything useful."

"Okay, boss." He rolled his eyes and strolled over to the white car which looked like it had been there resting by a tree for at least twenty years.

The wind started to pick up as the sun hid under the horizon while the moon slightly peaked over it. I made my way back over to where we set up camp under a small cliff of a weathered down rock, I ran my fingers through my thin, red dyed hair as I welcomed the cool breeze. Puffing out a short breath, I spun back around and walked over to where Scott was rummaging through the abandoned car. The suspicion was eating me alive from the inside and I needed to know more about the girl he saw and what had happened.

"Scott... I um..." I cleared my throat, I couldn't seem to find words to form a sentence. "About the girl, I don't know why I took it so seriously and-"

"Michael, it's fine, I get it," he continued to rummage through the compartments in the car. "I'm guessing you want to hear the whole story about this mystery girl, eh?" He turned around to look me in the eyes for a split second before turning back around to search the car, picking up two batteries from under the passenger seat and shoving them into his black duffle bag. My face remained blank as I just stared at him, waiting for his story. "I'll take that as a yes then." He let out a manly chuckle.

"Well, It started on a weekend in May-"

"No need to go into full detail." I huffed and rolled my eyes, he just shrugged before continuing.

"Okay. Today, before I found you over by the demolished house, I ran into a girl around eighteen or nineteen years old, dark brown hair, blue-"

"Get to the point." I impatiently tapped on the open car door with my pale fingers.

"I ran into her, literally. She was running from something but I never found out what, I called out for her and chased her until she finally stopped. I asked her if she was part of the raid, stupid question I know, but she only said that she needed to get away. I told her that she could stay with me, because she was unarmed and obviously the thing that was chasing her was."

"And what did she say? What was her name?" Scott sat in the passenger seat and I stood, leaning against the car.

"Simmer down, I'm getting to it." He repeatedly rubbed his hands up and down his thighs. "I asked where she was from but she didn't answer, she just shook her head and turned and ran away. So I just stood their dumbfounded until I heard some walkers in the distance and snapped back into reality."

"So that's it? Nothing happened? She didn't even tell you her name?"

I didn't know why I was suddenly obsessed with her. I just hoped she got away from whatever was after her and got to safety. Maybe reunited with the rest of her group. If she even had a group...

"Nope, nothing else. She just came and went." He just shrugged his broad shoulders and got up from the car seat and stopped in front of me, "Cheer up, big 'orse, you'll get over her. It's just a first crush thing." He winked and tapped my cheek twice then walked off back to our 'camp'.
