- M A C Y ' S P O V -

The adrenaline from the tunnel is still pumping in my veins. But my mind can't help but reel back to that demon. It's nothing I've ever seen before. It had the appearance of a normal walker, apart from its eyes.

Those eyes.

Its full white eyes imprinted in my brain, staring through me as it pinned me down on the cold, hard road. The unbearable strength as it tackled me to the ground and held me down. The way it sprinted towards me.

It's like the walkers have upgraded themselves, using scientific machines and what not to improve their performance.

I don't know how they did it, but they did.

This completely changes the world. These new and improved walkers can kill people ten times faster and easier, unless we destroy them all before anything worse happens.

My feet thud on the grass. As soon as I made it out of that nightmare of a tunnel, I took a left into the forest, not daring to look back. I'm now making my way in between trees as the moon rises and the sun falls slowly.

I hum a random tune but stop when I hear rustling coming from behind me.

Another demon.

It starts sprinting, and I mean sprinting towards me. My heart rate picks up once again as my legs pick up the pace too. I look behind me quickly to see the demon a few meters away from me, I look back in front to dodge trees and rocks. I can hear it's loud breathing and heavy footsteps get further and further away as I cleverly outrun it by taking sudden turns and skidding under semi-fallen trees.

I don't hear the demon anymore but I keep sprinting for my life, tears of fear escaping my green eyes.

I look back one last time to check if it really is gone, but I run into something hard and rebound off of it.

A person.

He has dirty blonde hair and dark eyes. He is actually quite attractive, might I add. I bounce back up and continue to run but I'm stopped by a first grip around my upper arm. I wince in pain, feeling more blood leak from my deep cut on the arm he gripped onto. I rip my arm out from his grip and glare at him, tears still escaping my eyes. He opens his mouth to say something but closes it immediately after so I turn and jog away.

"Wait!" I hear him call after me and then thumps of his feet chasing after me. "Were you part of the raid at Glimmerdale camp?" His deep voice asks. I turn around and look him in the eyes.

"I would run if I were you. You need to get away. I need to get away." I say simply and turn to run away but he speaks again.

"I won't hurt you, if you're scared of that person, or thing coming to get you, you can stay with me..." He trails off. My eyes soften at his words but quickly return to its cold glare. I just shake my head. "Okay... so where are you from?" Is he stupid? I just furrow my eyebrows and shake my head slowly again.

I turn and jog away and don't look back. Deep down in that stone cold heart of mine I feel guilty for not being nicer to the man that offered to help me. But I remind myself of my rules.

No friends, and trust no one.

I can't help but want a friend or someone I can trust because it gets lonely fighting this evil world alone. My last friend, Alicia, got taken by walkers when we were ten. We were playing in a little stream not far from my fathers farm when she got stuck in mud, unable to get out of the sticky substance. I tried to pull her out but she wouldn't budge. We both cried for help but that only seemed to attract walkers, a group of three. I wanted to help her but I just couldn't, no matter how hard I tried. I remember slowly letting go of her clammy hands and seeing the fear and hurt flowing through her crystal blue eyes. She called for me to come back to help her but I just turned my back and ran away with tears staining my rosy red cheeks. I heard her screaming in pain and the growling of hungry walkers, and that's when I knew I had murdered my best friend.

I shake the thoughts from my mind and keep jogging, stopping by a thick tree to hide behind. I have decided to stay close to him, investigate him, and get to know him from afar. Then, if I trust him enough, I'll accidentally run into him again.

I look back to where he stands, still in the same spot I last saw him. I look behind him to see a small pack of walkers coming towards him which seems to snap him out of his daze and turns to walk away. I let out a breath I didn't realise I was holding. I mentally slap myself for caring for a stranger.

I watch as he walks past trees. "Wha-" I gasp as I see another man with red hair. The red head pulls out his rifle and aims it at the blonde boy. Enemies? I see them conversing and then the red head lowers his gun. Phew. Stop it stop it stop it. My subconscious is right, I have to stop worrying about that guy.

I see the blonde imitate a walker? I let out a quiet giggle as I watch him walk with his arms straight out in front of him. He then points over towards the North.

They both walk side by side away from me so I stealthily proceed to spy on them. I crouch behind a log a fair way away from them. They walk past old buildings and rubble, then suddenly they stop and look over to a giant rock but I see nothing there. The red head goes to check but turns away once he sees nothing.

The blonde must have said something to make the red head practically snap his neck to look at him, he was that quick.

He must have said something else shocking that made the red head stop dead in his tracks.

...

Minutes passed and they are now collecting sticks, for a fire I'm presuming.

It's getting dark fast so I move in closer to see them. I can hear them talking, that's how close I am. The blonde is talking about me.

"And what did she say? What was her name?" The blonde is sitting in the passenger seat of a white car while the red head stands, leaning against it.

I part of me wants to jump out and tell them everything, but another part tells me to remain hidden as I don't trust them enough yet. But they seem like nice guys that I can trust. I tune out the rest of the conversation.

"...It's just a first crush thing." The blonde one says as I listen in again.

"I don't even know the woman!" Oh, but you just might.

The smile fades from the red heads face as if something the blonde said made him click into a trance of...reg
I watch his face closely, seeing him stand in front of me and reminisce about something obviously bad that happened, as I can tell from the light sniffles I can hear. My heart aches for him.

And in this moment, I realise I can trust these two men.

I lose my balance from my crouching position behind a log and almost fall backwards, but saving my fall my stepping my right leg behind me. I must have stepped on dead leaves or bark because a loud crack breaks through the silence.

Well shit.
