It was nearing nighttime. Shinji was told that since they didn't have a bed for him yet, he would have to sleep on the couch downstairs. They apologized but he waved it off, saying that it was alright. In truth, he was more comfortable sleeping by himself rather than with strangers. Laying down, covered with a blanket given to him by Goro, Shinji tried his best to close his eyes and rest. He was tired of thinking about all that had happened. Everything had been so sudden and fast. His mother forcing him here just so that he could make a decision, fighting the Klaxosaurs, meeting these "parasites" as they were so named. After trying to sleep unsuccessfully for about 10 minutes, Shinji opened his eyes. He gazed at the ceiling, reminded of the first time he had slept at Misato's place. It was just like this, unfamiliar and strange. He wished he had his SDAT player. Some comfort in this world parallel to his.

Shinji once again closed his eyes. No use worrying about it now, the point was it had happened. Thinking about it wouldn't give him rest. He tightened the blankets around him and once again closed his eyes.

...

Dr. FRANXX watched sparks fly, as the workers attempted to cut into Shinji's EVA. He had attempted to scan the mech using his tech, but the results that he gotten had made no sense. He expected energy readings, or maybe hidden weapons systems deep within it. But what was scanned was not mechanical. It was biological. This EVA had DNA flowing through it, albeit unknown. Something was underneath all this armor. It wasn't Klaxosaur either since the scanner would've identified the DNA found as Klaxosaur DNA.

He continued to watch, watching as the cutters whirred to a stop. They had cut through all the armor. The process had taken over an hour, since this "EVA" was covered in so many hardened plates. He walked over as the workers backed away respectfully. Taking out a syringe, he looked at what appeared to be the skin that was now revealed after much

"Interesting, this thing isn't a mech... at least not fully. I'll take some of its blood to test later." The doctor thought, slowly plunging the syringe carefully into the odd skin. The blood flowed into the tube, which appeared to be red in color. He carefully put the tube into his pocket and was about to walk away when he shot a casual look at the EVA's head. It had moved to look at him. He hadn't even heard a single creak. The doctor was immediately struck with a feeling of intense fear. He stared off at it, before slowly walking towards the exit.

"Carefully now..." He thought, creeping slowly backward. The workers had noticed this too but they hadn't moved an inch. The doctor finally made it to the door, going through and closing it before letting  out the breath that he had been unconsciously been holding in.

"That thing..." After collecting himself and putting some distance between him and the EVA, he began to think hard.

"That aura... I've only felt it once before. The one equal to it would be..." He stopped in his tracks.

"The Princess." Memories of his time with her were short and brutal. But he was ever so fascinated by her, remembering each second of it. He compared the pressure he had felt to the EVA.

"If this EVA is as powerful as she is... No. I don't have enough information to just go off my feelings. Science shall be my friend." He felt a grin forming as he continued to walk forward back to his lab, planning to test all night to see exactly what kind of DNA this EVA had.

...

Shinji finally managed to fall asleep, albeit only able to get 4-5 hours of it. He sat up on the couch, rubbing his eyes. Looking around, he found no one around and slowly got up. He quietly exited the house, wanting to explore. It was still a bit dark, but he could make out what things were. He managed to find what appeared to be a small lake. Sitting down next to a rock close to the shore, he stared at the rippling water. It reminded him of his time in the LCL pool, floating in the united consciousness of humanity. Oddly enough, this comforted him somehow.

Did he want to go back to that? Shinji looked around at the trees, and then up at the domed glass barrier encasing them in. This whole ordeal he was going through was to help him make up his mind.

"Thanks, mom. I guess I've only been here for a short time but I was hoping that I could decide immediately after you sent me here. That was a stupid assumption. You want me here longer, right? Just so I can think things through." Shinji sighed. He had a feeling that he was going to be doing that a lot more throughout this whole experience.  He thought about her words, what she had told them before entering the portal.

"Happy or desolate. The fate of this world is in my hands. Well that's nothing new, although I was kinda hoping I wouldn't have to deal with that  kind of burden again." Shinji stood up, and began walking back towards the house.

"If I'm going to give them a happy ending, I'm going to have to figure out just what kind of ending that is for this world."

...

Shinji sat next to Goro and Futoshi during breakfast. The air around the table during breakfast was filled with light hearted chatter. Shinji didn't pay any mind to it, as he took a bite of his toast. He watched as Zero Two, who was sitting far from him, poured what appeared to be gallons of honey on her plate drowning all the food on it. Nobody paid any heed, they were probably used to it. He noticed that she talked to Hiro, and Hiro only. He shrugged it off, and kept eating his burnt piece of bread.

When breakfast was done, everyone went their separate ways. Zero Two and Hiro went off into the woods, the others just chatted on the couch or went to their bedroom. Shinji didn't have much interest in their conversations, so he just sat near a window and looked out of it. He needed to think of a happy ending for these people. So he thought about everything he had learned up to this point. Humanity were hiding in these mobile fortresses called plantations. They were hiding due to the Klaxosaurs. If all Klaxosaurs were to die, then would be a happy ending for them?
