Legacy

Chapter 1

"The Royal Court meeting will begin in 5 minutes!" the King says.

He adjusts his gold crown, which is almost the same color of his curly hair. He looks at his queen, who fiddles nervously with her bow and arrows at her side. Did I mention the King and Queen are my parents? Have I also mentioned that they are the famous Gillian Cobbler and Jaxon Porter? Yep. My parents are the rulers of the Kingdom of Enchantsia.  And one day I will take their place. Also, who would keep a bow and arrow at their side except for my mom?

I look at the long table ahead of me. At the head is obviously Dad, and to his left is Mom. Dad prefers to dress formally, and today, he's wearing a white dress suit, with a dark tie that brings out his violet eyes. Mom, on the other hand, prefers to dress more causally, and is wearing a light blue tee shirt with jeans. I'm wearing a frilly white blouse (upon Mom's insistence that I dress more formally) and a blue skirt. Although I prefer my usual tee shirt and overalls, this isn't as bad as the uncomfortable dresses I have to wear for balls.

I start to become bored. Royal Court meetings do not interest me at all. Still, Dad insists I come to some of them to "know what's going on", and to "be prepared for when I am going to rule". I look around the room. Everyone is quietly talking and waiting for the meeting to start. Sitting to the right of Dad are Kayla and Ollie. Kayla is holding her 5 year-old son on her lap, and trying to brush his blond hair. Ollie is eating patty cakes and is making a mess. Nothing unusual. I wonder where Olivia is...

"Psst!"

I turn around. Did I hear something?

"Julie!"

Hovering next to my chair is Olivia. Her transparent wings are fluttering at full speed. She has her dad's dark hair and her mom's amber eyes, but her quirky smile is all her own.

"Olivia! You're supposed to be sitting in your designated chair! Do you wanna get us both in trouble?!" I whisper loudly.

Olivia rolls her eyes. "You heard your dad! The meeting doesn't technically start until 5 minutes".

True...Olivia does have a point.

"Okay, fine. But why did you come over here?" I ask.

Her amber eyes sparkle. "Have you heard? Queen Devin and King Heath are coming to visit Enchantcia with their twins in two weeks!"

Now it's my turn to roll my eyes. "Olivia, which news source do you use?"

"Happily Ever After Scrolls. Duh!" she responds.

I sigh. HEAS isn't the most reliable news source in Enchantcia. I usually use Enchantcia Insider. It's way more reliable. But, that would be exciting if Devin and Heath came to visit. They travel so often, they only visit Enchantcia twice a year. I'll have to wait until the new Enchantcia Insider comes out.

Bored, Olivia looks over to her mom, Kayla, who gives her a look. She sighs.

"Okay, I should be going. My mom wants me", she says. In a blink of an eye, she disappears, and reappears in her seat next to Ollie. 

I think I'm beginning to doze off when Dad says,"The Royal Court meeting will now begin!"
