I can't sleep! After everything that's happened today, that's all I can think about. I check my clock. It says 11:59.

Ugh! I guess I'll be awake all night. I go over to my desk. I start drawing a sketch of a bird. The bird wants to be free, but it's stuck in a cage. It keeps trying to get out, but it can't. Then, the bird's-

Thunk.

What was that? Anyways, the bird-

Thunk.

"Knock it off!" I whisper yell.

Thunk.

ARGH! I go to my window and shove it open.

"Show yourself!"

Hmm...all I can see is the moon, the village down below, and-

"Hey Julie!" Olivia says.

"AHHHH! Olivia! What are you doing here! It's the middle of the night!"

She's hovering over my window, and has a couple rocks in her hand. "Well, I thought I would just come check on you. You know, with what happened today. So... can I come in?"

I sigh. There was no point of sending her back now.

"Fine. But don't touch anything. And this is not a sleepover. You know how the last one went..."

"I know. It was an accident! Anyways," she flies into my room, "I just wanted to check on you. Like I already said. Do you want to...talk about it?"

"Not really."

Wanting to change the subject, I ask, "Do your parents know you're here?"

"Of course they do!"

I give her a look.

"Well, I asked them."

"And what did they say?"

"Well, Dad let out a snore, so I'm almost positive that was a yes."

"Olivia!"

"Don't worry, I'll be out soon. You're my bestie. I care about you, Julie!"

"Mmhmmm..."

"Okay! Well then," Olivia lands on the ground. She starts looking at my sketches on my desk. "Wow, you're a great artist. Is that a bird? Is it in a cage? I think I can guess why you drew that..."

I give her a look.

"Not helping! Okay, I get it. I know what will help you though..."

Oh no!

"Olivia, I know that look. What are you going to do?"

She grabs my hand.

"You trust me?"

"Not even the slightest bit," I respond honestly.

She gives me a sad look. "That hurt, Julie. But too bad!"

Olivia drags me over to the window, and before I can process what's happening, she jumps out of the window.

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

"Shhh! Someone will hear us!"

Oh my goodness. What just happened? I'm now hovering in midair. Olivia lets go of my hand. And I'm still hovering.

"How-?"

"Fairy magic," she says with a wink.

"C'mon, Julie! It's easy to fly. Just copy what I do!" she says, and twirls around.

I can still not process that I'm hovering in mid-air.

"Well, it seems like you're getting the hang of it. Let's go!"

Olivia flies off and I have no choice but to follow. After a minute I get the hang of flying. This is actually fun!

We fly over the village, and I can see all the shops that Mom and Dad would tell me about all the time. I can see FTRS, the school that Mom and Dad both went to when they were my age. FTRS is still running, but more as a regular school than a reform school. I wonder where Royal Academy is. Since I'm a royal, I'm technically supposed to be going there, but instead, I'm tutored at the palace. After flying around for ten minutes, I slow down and fly next to Olivia.

"Wow, being a fairy must be fun! I wish I was a fairy. Well, technically, I'm 1/16 of a fairy, but I don't think that really counts."

"Yeah," Olivia says. Her voice is weak. Using her magic must have made her tired.

"Do you wanna go back?"

"Oh, only if you want to. I'm fine really. But if you want to, we'll go back."

I smile. Olivia's so stubborn.

"Okay then, I'm really tired. Let's go back. But this has been fun. "

We arrive back at the palace.

"Bye, Julie!"

"Bye! And thanks for the flight!"

"No prob. Anytime. See you later!" Olivia flies off.

I lay back in my bed. As soon as I close my eyes, I fall asleep, and dream about a bird flying throughout the world all on her own.
