Marie was a self absorbed chess player, but she couldn't let anyone know it.
Marie grew up in the middle class lifestyle, a decent amount of friends she didn't like, went to a school where teachers hated her for her lack of work ethic, all in a privileged suburban neighborhood.
She didn't live a perfect life but at least she had money right?
By fourteen Marie and her family moved to New York, Marie hoping that she could start a new life, all she ever dreamed of was to escape the prison that she lived in.
Marie loved to read, tried to romanticize her life as much as she could, but truly never enjoyed her own. She wanted to die, but had this unimaginable fear of death.
Marie met a girl called Beth Harmon not long after moving to New York, and she changed her life for the good, Marie had the same effect on Beth.
Although Beth was such an individualist, which Marie hated about her, she ended up teaching Marie how to play the game of chess.
Marie became fascinated with the art of chess and began analyzing and studying chess. Her library turned from books about romance to constant readings of chess games.
Marie soon realized she had become a better player then Beth Harmon herself.
Marie couldn't tell a soul.
After Beth won her very first tournament in New York, absolutely tearing Harry Beltik to pieces, she offered Marie to join her along her next trip.
Cincinnati, Ohio.
