"are you ready?!" I hear an annoyed voice shout from a distance.

I snap up from the comfort of my bed and furrow my eyebrows in confusion, attempting to comprehend what the situation is.

"what?" I replied mumbled.

"our flights in two hours, come on!" My dear friend Beth pecks at me.

After regaining my vision and being able to properly awake, I fall back onto my bed into my resting position, facing the ceiling. I shut my eyes and rub them with my right hand in exhaustion. "yeah-yeah, my stuffs on the floor, I just need to get dressed." I responded slurred.

Beth walks over and leaps into my bed like a wild frog and slaps her arms onto mine, rocking my body aggressively. "get up!" she complains like an absolute child.

"You are really annoying" I mumble, my face stuffed into my pillow.

"I know you are but what am I." she says heightening her voice, although I'm not facing her I could sense that she was grinning profusely.

I roll my eyes and sit up from my position and turn my head towards her, I stare into her eyes and place my hands on her cheeks aggressively "calm down chess lady, just let me get dressed and we can leave." I say firmly, slightly slapping her face to the left.

I pull away from her and stand up from the bed, as I walk towards my closet I can hear Beth rustle getting up from my bed, "our ride is going to be here soon, you know how quick he is."

I continue to walk into my closet, not responding to what Beth blabbed at me.

I waltz out of my closet, with a beige mini dress and a brown corduroy jacket with fur on the inside, confidence over the roof. Beth stands straight from leaning against my wall, "took you long enough." she protests

"aw, did you miss me." I sarcastically pout, grabbing a hold of my bags.

she scoffs and begins walking out of my bedroom, heading downstairs to the front of my house. I follow behind her, still exhausted as ever, but excited for what adventure lies ahead, even if it is just chess.

As we walked out of my house, locking my door behind me. I stuff my bags into the back seat of the large black and shiny car that is our ride. I stepped into the car door that was already open, thanks to oh-so-kind Beth.

I turn to look at Beth as the car starts up, "You nervous?" I ask breaking the silence.

"Never." Beth scoffs.

I grin and turn my head to look out the tinted window.

I pop the door open, causing Beth to flinch awake.

"Are we here?" Beth groans.

"Yup, now get your ass up chess lady." I reply, waving my arm signaling her to step out of the car.

I walk over to the window of the driver's seat and stand there waiting patiently for him to lower his window.

As his window lowers I smile and I hand him a fifty dollar bill, "Go have a nice dinner." I say to him smoothly.

He looks at me for a moment and smiles, without a response he takes the bill.

I grin at him as I walk away to the back of the truck, taking a hold of my luggage as Beth does the same.

"What were you doing?" Beth asks me, furrowing her eyebrows in confusion.

"Feeding him." I giggle

"What?" Beth says laughing in response.

I purse my lips together and don't respond as I slam the trunk and follow her down the path to get to the hotel entrance.

We walk into the hotel and our heads turn in fascination all over the hotel. The hotel is classy but beautiful, it's very calming. Beth walks over to the front desk to check us in and I follow behind her.

"Excuse me?" A man behind me blurts, tapping my shoulder. I jump in the slightest, I turn my body to face him, a little startled, "Your bags?" He says looking down at my luggage.

I nod and hand him my bags, he takes them and places them on the rack with wheels.

I turn and tap Beth, "Hm?" She mumbles turning to look at me.

"Hotel man wants your bags." I say firmly

Beth grins, walking over and sets her luggage down on the rack, her luggage piling onto my bags.

"Room number?" The man asks.

"Oh," I turned back to Beth who was leaning against the front desk, "Yo, Beth what's our room number?"

"210." She replies, still facing the front desk.

"210." I repeat looking back at the hotel worker.

He nods and walks off into the distance.

I walk over to Beth's side and rest my arms on the front desk.

Beth turns to look at me, "Hey I'm going to go check into the tournament and take a look around the chess boards, I'll meet you up later for my matches and then we can get dinner." Beth exclaims.

"Alright, I'll go checkout the room. I love hotels." I reply grinning, and turning away to walk over to the staircase.

After finishing walking up the one carpeted green staircase, I notice there's a group of men all huddled and sitting together, having a sort of discussion. I attempt to continue to walk as I find myself having to pass this very group of men to get to my room. I hold my room key in hand and right before I think I can smoothly get past the men without hopefully causing a scene one of them speaks to me.

"Hey girl!" One of the men shouts at me.

I pause, sighing, I slowly turn to face the group of men. All of them huddled around these two men sitting in chairs parallel to each other. I look down slightly and notice there's a chess board they're playing on.

The man who shouted at me is older, he had clear reading glasses and his hair is slick back.

The other man parallel to the obnoxious one who decided to holler at me is much younger, maybe even my age. He has semi-long blonde hair, a few strands in his face not seeming to bother him. He's wearing jeans, a black button up dress shirt, unbuttoned a few times at the top, various necklaces lay on his neck, and some jewelry on his hands, which i have to say is very attractive.

But the thing that caught my eye the most is that he is wearing a cowboy hat of all things, and if I'm being honest he kind of pulls it off.

I look back at the man who hollered at me, "Yes?" I ask, I really hope this man was talking to me or this whole encounter will be incredibly embarrassing.

"Do you play?" he says pointing at the board.
