Chapter 3

The Test

Elsa's P.O.V

"Elsa Arens." A voice called, I look back at Anna and give a small smile and she smiles back. My heart was pounding hard and my stomach felt sick.

I enter the testing room with sweaty palms that I wipe on my plain, gray dress. A Dauntless woman stands there in dark clothes, pink streaked hair and an earring pierced into her eyebrow working with the serums that they inject into us to take the test.

I stand there for a moment waiting for her to notice me, but then I notice something, a tattoo of an crow on the back of her neck. Finally she noticed me, and she gestured for the seat in the middle of the room.

"Hi, I'm Carly, take a seat and we'll begin the test." She says with a calm voice unlike mine I feel would be shaky and quivering. I head to the cushioned recliner-like seat and sit. I couldn't help myself and blurted.

"Does that crow symbolize something?" I ask and immediately regret saying it, feeling guilty for invading someone's personal space. She stops working with the serums and looks at me and smirks.

"Death" she says "it reminds me of my past fear and how I concurred that fear, and as a Dauntless it's important to face your fears."

"Did you have a lot of fears?" Before thinking it comes out of my mouth and I feel the same guilt as before.

Carly gives me another long look,

"You're a curious Abnegation aren't you," she says in a calm voice continuing to work with the serums, connecting then with a shot-like object. She grabs one and stands in front of me.

"As you probably are aware of, the test is merely a stimulation that helps us determine the faction you belong in." She explains sounding bored. I nod along knowing all the information she I about to tell me. "What you see in the simulation are just images and cannot hurt or injure you. Are you ready?"

I slowly nod, feeling like I was going to throw up.

Carly injected the needle into neck and stepped back. The world began to spin, my vision blurred and I saw black.
