Abnegation, The Selfless

Elsa's P.O.V.

In my faction we're not aloud to look in the mirror, except on the second day of every third month, to cut our hair. My mother opened the sliding door to the mirror, I took a quick glance at myself in the mirror and saw my platnium blonde hair and my bright blue eyes. I was sitting on a wooden stool in front of the mirror.

I never really payed attention to the way I looked or. But I never mind when someone cared for me sometimes. Abnegation is the faction I'm in currently, but today we get a chance to change that.

Today is the Choosing Ceremony, where we get a choice to leave or stay in our factions. I looked at my mother's reflection, her chocolate brown hair, and pale skin like mine.

It was completely silent until my mother spoke, "You nervous?" She asked. She paused cutting my hair to look at the expression on my face. I tried to keep my face expressionless, and answered calmly " Were you? For your test?" To be honest, I've never been more frightened in my entire life.

"No," she answered finally after a short pause. "I was terrified." She looked at my hair and stepped forward to close the sliding door. I took one last look at myself through the mirror, revealing how different I looked than when I first started. I slowly got off the stool and look at my mother. Her eyes brimmed with tears and she pulled me into a tight hug. "You're father and I just want you to know that whatever you choose we will always love you." She said softly in my ear.

With those comforting word I went to my plain, bland, perfect room and picked out a grey dress from the hanger with many more grey, perfectly ironed clothes. I tied my platinum blond hair into a French bun. Then entered the kitchen where my sister, Anna, was in a grey dress like mine, and her strawberry blond hair braided into two was reading a book at the table. Next to her on the table were many more books stacked up high.

My father was standing near the stove cooking lunch. He turned around and gave me a warm smile. I smiled back, and sat down at the table and waited for the Choosing Ceremony.

AT THE CHOOSING CEREMONY

When we got to the Choosing Ceremony there was a huge crowd waiting to get in. After waiting a few more minutes we entered the building. The entrance was a huge, shiny, recently polished marble room withe marble columns. There were huge windows allowing you to see the entire city. We were led to an auditorium-like room with soft cushioned chairs surrounding a stage with five, white, bowls representing the five factions with their symbol on them.

When everyone was seated a man with similar color hair as Anna with sideburns walked up in front of everyone dressed in a blue suit showing that he was from Erudite. He stood directly in the middle of the stage where everyone could see him.

"Welcome! Citizens, I am Hans Sisles (Southern and Isles combined(I literally had no other idea 😄) and I present to you your fellow factions!Abnegation," he stated, and Abnegation stood up and everyone clapped. Then we sat down, and Hans called out "Candor," The Candor faction stood up and I noticed a boy with white hair similar to mine, dresses in a black and white suit staring at me.
We met eye contact and he blushed a bit and looked away. Candor sat down and the applause died down. "Dauntless," he called out and intimidating people stood up in black or red leather clothes. A girl with frizzy, curly red hair caught my attention, she whispered something to a girl next to her and they both giggled.

I always wanted to be Dauntless, being afraid of nothing that stands in your way, being able to do what ever you want, and not having to care about anyone else. I know it was a bit selfish but if you were me you'd want a little break.

"Amity," he shouted over the roaring claps of the Dauntless cheering for themselves. Amity stood up in their baggy orange and red clothes. A girl with freakishly long golden hair was standing in the middle and looking as cheerful and peaceful as ever. Not looking a bit in fear. More claps from the factions.

"And finally! My own faction, Erudite!" Hans said with a little more emphasis for his own faction. Erudite stood up and that factions clapped and an Erudite boy with messy brown hair was fiddling with little pieces of metal scraps. I saw Hans staring at him and when they made eye contact the boy quickly put the scraps away. " I give you your Factions!" Even more applause and some shouting from the Dauntless.

When the applause died down Hans paused for a bit then finally said in a serious tone "Let's begin."
