Admiration, Beauty, and Courage

She would brighten the room with her dazzling smile
And when her eyes lip up, you knew you were in for the adventure of a lifetime.
Her words would leave you breathless,
Yet yearning for more.
And when you and she stood atop the cliff,
Overlooking the rapid and relentless river,
You felt invincible.
And when you looked at her, then at the world,
You realized they were one in the same.
In that moment it was you and her and nothing else,
And none of it mattered because then
That heart-stoppingly marvelous smile was directed at you,
And you lived in it the rest of your life.
To say that she captured your heart would be an understatement.

She was not perfect. None of them were.
But behind the facade, there was something rare and untouched.
Something real.
And though her outside smile radiated joy, if you knew her you'd know
That it was never the full truth.
But beneath that smile, and beneath that sorrow, there was something good.
Inexplicably angelic yet wild, broken yet wholly one.
It was captivating, the way she was; she was not perfect, but damn near close.
Perfection was impossible, but she toed the line. Though,
Her beauty lay in her imperfections, the hidden ferocity she buried deep down.

But if we continue in this monotony,
Will there be anything to cherish in the end?
Shall we love in the safe way a traveler loves his many sights,
Preserving them yet with no commitment?
Or, worse, admiring form afar as a schoolboy's eyes follow his crush,
Desperate but too afraid to make a move?
Or, shall we take a chance, the impossible chance that somehow,
It will all be okay?
Shall we dive into the depths of the ocean,
Fly in the highest skies,
To search for a purpose, even if we may not come back?
Are we brave enough to take the chance?
If we do not go, we shall spend our days regretting our choice.
If we do,
We may never come back home,
But at least we can say we tried.
The question is, when the time comes,
Will we have the courage?
