Despair is Powerless

I once read somewhere
That if one is truly different,
He will truly be lonely.

I was once told
That the one who’s truly lonely
Will be disconnected from the world.

As a child, it was once said
That being different was okay.
But, does it apply anymore?

Amidst a crowd,
Buried deep within them all,
There’s someone who is pale
Against all the colors.

Stuffed inside narrow hallways,
Hidden well within them all,
Is someone who fits in the shadows,
While everyone else is swimming in light.

Amongst us all
Are the underdogs:
The “nerds”, the “freaks”
The “shy”, and the “disconnected”.

Forced into the stereotypes,
They suffocate in despair,
Tortured by their own logical works,
Tormented into the modern world.

Normal against abnormal
Does not exist!
It’s a fictional world created by non-believers,
The ones with their good eye covered.

I have seen the world,
Where we all hold hands in pride
And acknowledge our differences.
But does that world only come to play
When a coffin is brought out
And someone finally feels ashamed;
They claim the title of murderer.

I once read somewhere
Deep within the long stanzas
Something I will live by:

“Despair is Powerless.
What overcomes the agony
Is the bright side that is always there,
If one searches for it.”

The speaker of the poem
Realized this after 15 years of a lover’s death,
And then did he or she realize
That love and life was the greatest bright side.

So, I declare to stand proudly for myself
And aid those, who ask for it.
Not by forcing my beliefs
But doing what I do best; I will write.

This is for the “underdogs”.
This is for the “black sheep”.
This is for the “normal ones”.
This is for every human.

What will you declare?
