warning: this chapter involves assault

You were taking a walk down the busy streets of Burbank as the sun went down. There were some complications with your show that were stressing you out and you decided to take a walk to help you relax. You stopped at a coffee shop to grab a little treat, and when you went back outside it was dark. You decided to start walking back home.

As you walked down the less crowded street passing the WB lot, you heard footsteps behind you. You picked up your pace a bit but as the figure's shadow came into vision you realized just how big the person was. You turned around and the man was looking right at you.

Meanwhile, Yakko was leaning on the railing of the water tower. He had stepped outside to watch the sun go down and stayed a while to enjoy the fresh air. He had seen you walking past the lot, and soon noticed the man walking behind you, a bit too close for comfort. He jumped down and headed in your direction without a second thought.

In front of you, the man leaned down to speak to you, and when you pulled out your usual weapon, he grabbed it.

"Oh no, I know how you toons are. You're fiesty, and I like that." he said in a creepy voice as he pulled it out of you hand and grabbed your wrist, squeezing it so you couldn't break free.

You were sweating with fear, about to call out for help when a mallet fell down on the man, causing him to let go of your arm and for you to fall backwards onto the ground. You looked up and saw Yakko as he snarled at the man, who looked down at him with anger as he rubbed his head.

"Leave them alone you creep!" he shouted at the man, and raisied his mallet to hit him again.

The man's eyes widened and he glanced at you one more time before turning and running in the other direction.

Yakko turned to you, sitting on the ground, rubbing your wrist where the man had grabbed you, and he extended his hand, a worried expression on him face.

"Are you okay?" he asked, a bit of panic in his voice.

Your heart was still pounding and you were trying to steady your breath, so all you could muster was a nod. He pulled you up and into a hug, and he realized you were shaking. He rubbed your back gently, and looked around to make sure the man was really gone, before leading you back to the water tower, his arm wrapped around you with a hand placed gently on your arm.

When you were in front of the tower, your breath had steadied and Yakko was holding your hand. He helped you up the ladder and opened the door for you. You hadn't said anything on the walk over, and Yakko didn't want to push you. He led you over to the couch to sit down, and  held your hand with both of his.

After a moment, you looked up at him. "Thank you." You paused for a moment. "I don't know.. what would have happened if..." You let out a shaky breath, and Yakko pulled you into a hug.

"I was there, so don't think about that." he told you, gently stroking your back.

He wanted to promise that he'd always be there, but as much as he hated it, he couldn't be. He wished he could follow you around everywhere, to make sure you were okay, but he can't even follow his own sibling all the time. It made him angry that people like that existed, people who would take advantage of anyone they could overpower. He raged at the fact that you all lived in a world that would hurt the people he loves. But that anger turned to hurt, and fear, and soon he was clinging to you, imagining exactly what he just told you not to think about.

You noticed this change and realized he needed comforting as well. You squeezed him tight, then pulled back to look at him, a tear in his eye.

You cupped his cheek in your hands. "Hey, I'm alright, and I'll be more careful from now on. You don't need to worry about me, okay?" you told him, your eyes watering at seeing him so uneasy.

He nodded and pulled you back into a hug. "I wish you didn't have to be careful just walking home at night." he said, quietly.

You sighed, because you agreed. You held  onto each other for a while longer before Wakko and Dot walked into the room and asked you guys if you were alright. Yakko explained it to them, and emphasized that this is why it's important to be careful when out alone, especially at night. They all gave you a big hug and you guys watched tv for the rest of the night, safe and warm on the couch.

"Can you stay here tonight?" Yakko asked, turning to you.

You smiled and leaned your head on his shoulder. "Of course."

He kissed you on the forehead and rested his own head on yours. You nuzzled into the crook of his neck and watched the show Wakko had picked out.

When the show ended and it was time for the younger two to sleep, you helped Yakko get Dot and Wakko in bed.

"I'll let you borrow my mallet when you go out, they're very effective." Wakko told you as he crawled into his hammock.

You chuckled a bit. "Yeah, so I've seen."

Yakko shuddered a bit at remembering the events of earlier that day. He gave them both a kiss on the forehead, and then walked over to the kitchen, with you close behind. He poured a glass of water.

"You thirsty?" he asked you.

"No, I'm good." you responded, sitting in a seat. You crossed your arms on the table and laid your head down on them as Yakko sat next to you.

"I really care about you," he said, and you looked up at him. "and I worry about you, like, all the time."

"I know." You sighed. "I'm gonna avoid walking alone after sundown from now on."

"Guess that means you'll be staying the night here more often." He wiggled his eyebrows at you.

You chuckled a bit. "Yeah, I guess it does."
