"You are a murderer now lets see what made you one." Hotch said in a stern and serious tone to the man who killed his wife a night ago.
Calmly walking out of the interview room Aaron saw me standing at the one sided glass. All I could ask myself was how could a psychology fine male be on the verge of a major psychological break and not show signs. Whatever it was it wasn't going to be a simple explanation.
//
"Why dont we start with a simple explanation, they're lying."Derek says at the round table Hotch walking in.
Going through reasons of explanation, Garcia shows where all the murderers were from. "Murder by a proxy, that means it has to be drugs." I explain.
While JJ and Morgan went to interview Mr.Karas. Hotch and Emily went to go interview Christine.
Spencer,Rossi, Garcia, and I forming ideas for a connection. Garcia eventually found that all the vics were adopted in 1985. But all from different states. Rossi,Reid, and I were going to Topeka to talk to the family members.
//
Rossi examining Mr.Karas' closet. "Karas said he smelled sage." Reid explains.
"It must've been a drug." I state.
My eyes fall on the air vent motioning to Spencer to look inside. Climbing up on a chair and removing the piece of metal, turning on his flashlight and looking inside. "Anything?" Rossi questions.
Spencer pulls out two tubes, bagging them and giving them to the evidence team.
//
"The plastic tested positive for Sevoflurane and scopolamine, both powerful dissociatives.the first is used to put you into a waking dream.The second in high doses makes you highly suggestable." Reid explains to the team back at Quantico.
///
"We profiled the victims all had a preexisting condition I think this is it." Hotch states to the team.
"How would the unsub know that?" Derek queries.
"Because he was there the last time they made up a story, in 1985."
"So they were only 3-4 years old.Kids that age can't distinguish fantasy from reality." JJ states.
"Exactly." Hotch continues "And their age plus the time period puts us right at the height of the satanic ritual abuse allegations."
"Oh crap!" Rossi and I sigh at the same time.
"This is a completely different set of circumstances." Emily states matter-of-factly.
"Was it? Throughout the 1980s, pre-school-age kids made accusations against their teachers." I respond.
"McMartin, Fells acres, kern county. 270 cases by 1988. Numerous innocent teachers had their lives an careers ruined, and all the cases were ultimately debunked." Reid says using his voice he always uses when stating facts.
"By the BAU and the lanning report, thank you very much." Rossi nods his head.
"Except that was a mass hysteria involving teachers and kids. And these victims were adopted."Emily reminds us.
"Well that's the deviation that made us miss the profile until now. 30 years ago, these victims could have made similar accusations in a foster home, all saying the same thing, that they saw this." I hold up the pictures the victims had all drawn.
"3-year old Larry Merlin would've said the monster dragged him down the stairs." Rossi states.
"And 4-year old Daniel Karas one-upped it by adding a sexual detail.That's how kids tell stories especially when they're reinforced by well-meaning parents,therapists,and cops." Derek continues.
