chapter 5 a spark within

Nathan focuses and his eyes go back to normal. Catherine is sitting there in shock and fear "what the hell was that Nathan" Catherine asked frantically

"Please don't be scared of me I can explain. I should have told you a lot sooner but I was scared you would run away" Nathan tried explaining while getting up to walk near Catherine 

Catherine calmed down and then said "Nathan I stand besides you no matter what. I told you that and I meant it now please just explain"

Nathan sat there for a moment and then said "well i'm not really sure what I am but I know im part human and part...something else. I have a power that is very ancient, my kind is known as half bloods or even sometimes Dragonbornes but that name has been gone since the 15 hundreds. I have fire in me and heat does not burn me, fire absorbs into my skin making my power even stronger" Nathan takes off his shirt and focuses and his birthmark starts to glow red and he then continues to say "it's the mark of the dragon so my da...I mean Max tells me. Max thinks I am the last of my kind but who knows with him anymore I mean he has been lying to me my whole life so far" the birthmark goes back to normal he then says "you don't seem to shocked by what I just told you"

"Nathan...ummm...I am not sure how to say this"

"Its ok you can tell me anything i'm with you no matter what just as you said to me"

"I know," Catherine said and then held hand up and clenched it into a fist and focused with her eyes closed. She then opens her fist and a bright purple flame surrounds her hand and it does not seem to hurt her. She then looks at Nathan and he sees her eyes have a turned purple and look like there is a flame inside of them. Nathan goes to reach for Catherines hand and she pulls away "I could hurt you" she says with a frown

"What do you mean" Nathan asked

"Nathan I live here alone. My aunt owns the place but she is never here; she is not even in the same state as me. She is scared of me, because a few months before I met you I lost control of my power and burned my house I was the only one to make it out alive" she explains as she goes back to the memory "my parents my siblings all of them are gone because of this fire inside of me. I tried to control it but I couldn't I was just so angry with my mom and it was over something stupid." Catherines eyes started to fill with water "My mother told me I was not allowed to have my phone and I got upset she said I needed to be more social with the family so she took the phone and even took my door of my room later that night I was sitting in my bed and I could feel such rage inside of me just waiting to be released and all the sudden there was this purple flame around me and its heat felt so nice it was like a blanket wrapped around me but then the flames spread fast and burned things to an ash I could..... I could hear my little sister screaming in the next room I tried to run to her but I got tossed back by some explosion and I hit my head. I was unable to move but I could hear the screams of my family. the next day they found me under all the ashes they thought I was dead and so did I"

Nathan looked at her with sadness in his eyes and touched her cheek and  then said "you can't hurt me" and then reached for her hand and her fire went around his hand not burning him.

"How is this possible" she asks while looking at his hand with shock and wiping the tears from her face 

"I don't know" Nathan said "why did you show me this you could have kept it from me"

"Because I know my secret is safe with you"

"I will take it to my grave"

"And I will take yours to my grave in return" Catherine repeats as their eyes lock. Their fingers wrap around one another and Catherine's flame wrapped around Nathan and Nathans hand turned red and then red fire bursted from his hand wrapping around Catherines. Catherine leaned closer to Nathan, her breathing got heavier. She pulls him closer. Nathan's breathing starts to get heavy. Catherine sees his eyes and smiles

"Is something wrong" Nathan asks

"No. nothing is wrong just amazed" she explains and wraps her fingers around his hair and kisses him. When she opens her eyes they are a blue flame again and his is an orange flame. Catherine goes to kiss him again but is interrupted by a knock at the door. Their eyes go back to normal "who could that be at this late of an hour"
