chapter 3 the odd man

As Catherine and Nathan walked down the road back to his house a man came out of the darkness and walked up to them. The man was wearing a torn robe that seemed to be very old and a plain red shirt that had not been washed in a long time. The man had long grey hair and deep blue eyes and had a mark on his left arm. The man grabbed Nathan and said in panic "the time has come Nathan all will fall if you do not restore the balance". Nathan assumed the man was ill so he sat the old man down.

Nathan said "sir where do you live I can walk you back to your home"

The old man looked up and said "this is no time for games Nathan Devlin"

"How do you know my name" Nathan asked

"The same way I know about that mark on your chest" the man said

"I think its time for you to leave" Nathan explained"

Just then the old man stood up and yelled "apelnis morie kelvitno.....you must take your rightful place Nathan your father has you blinded from the truth" and after he said that the man vanished in the air.

Nathan knew there was magic in the world but he never realized magic was still around. Nathan looked at Catherine, her eyes were in shock and her face was pale white. Nathan walked over to her and grabbed her arm and said "you ok".

"Who the hell was that and how did he know your name" she said frantically

Nathan looked off in the distance and then said "I don't know but I think I know who would"

"Who" catherine asked

"That man mentioned my father. I think it's time my dad and I had a talk". Nathan and Catherine shortly got to the house after the strange event on the road. Right when Nathan opened the door he saw his mother. Nathan looked at his mom and said "mom where is dad I need to talk to him'

"He is out back why"

"I will tell you about it later," Nathan said while heading to the back of the house. He saw his father stacking wood for another fire. " father I need to speak with you" Nathan demanded

"Ahh nathan how was the dance" his father asked

"It was" he paused "fine until we were walking back home. A strange man grabbed my arm and said some crazy stuff about my rightful place and".. Nathan stopped.

"What is it son"

Nathan looked at Catherine who had followed him and he said "Catherine will you go help my mother her back has been causing her more pain"

"Yeah I will see you inside" she said

Nathan looked back at his father and said "the man knew about my birthmark dad and he had the same birthmark only it was on his arm"

"What else did this man say to you Nathan" his father asked in worry

"Well there is something else, dad he used magic he vanished right in front of our eyes he said some chant umm it was something like apenis more something sorry I didn't quite understand what it was"

"apelnis morie kelvitno" his father said while looking down

"Yeah that's it that's what he said" Nathan stated and then asked "wait how do you know what he said"

His father looked at him and said "Nathan he was speaking the language of the gods it means it is time to fill your destiny" his father was quiet for a second and then said "Nathan its time you got back into your training"

"What of catherine I mean she saw what happened and she heard him"

"That is up to you my son if you feel like you can trust her enough with your secret then tell her if not then you are going to have to forget about her"
