After the storm had passed they took Max to the hospital. They went for a broken leg but what they discovered as they got there would leave them with a heaviness in their hearts. Max had to wait for a doctor to be available, it seemed that there were other people hurt from the storm. It took nearly 30 minutes before a doctor ordered them into a room. The doctors did their normal check up on Max since he had missed a few normal appointments.

Everything was fine until the doctor came in the room again with a sort of sadness on his face. The doctor walked over to Max and sat down next time him and then said "Max I have known you for a long time now so this is hard for me"

"What's wrong how bad is the leg Lucas" Max asked

"Your leg is fine Max but after a few tests we noticed something"

"Noticed what" Max asked

"The cancer has spread even more and covers over 60% of your brain....you stopped responding to treatments Max" doctor Lucas explained with tears in his eyes "you have 2 months if your lucky". The room got quiet and nobody had any clue what to say.

Nathan and Max were just looking at each other and that is when Nathan said "may Max and I have the room for a minute" everyone got up and moved out to the hall and you could hear faint whispers and cries through the door. Nathan sat down next to Max and waited to say anything and then looked down and said "how long have you known" with a lump in his throat.

"A year ago" Max said while looking down at his lap

"And you didn't tell us" Nathan said with a little frustration in his voice

"Nathan what would it have done except make everyone else around me sad. It's not like anyone could help me. Nathan the kind of cancer I have is incurable. I wanted to keep you and your mother happy and not have to look at me wondering when I will die. I have accepted my fate Nathan and I will live my life as normal as I can"

"We could have helped you. I mean we made you do too much . We should have...." Nathan started to explain but then got interrupted by Max

"Nathan there is nothing nobody can do for me so it's pointless to place blame on someone" Max explained.

There was a silence between them and then Nathan's mother and Catherine walked back in the room. Martha (Nathan's mother) walked over to Nathan and said "are you ok"

Nathan wiped his eyes and said "yeah I just need a minute" and then walked out of the room and then walked out of the hospital and when he got to the parking lot he dropped to his knees and started to cry. Nathan's sadness eventually turned into anger and the veins in his fist started to glow red and then he screamed at the sky in anger in a dark tone that echoed across the skies. Thunder struck the air as he yelled. Nathan was mad at the world who he felt like had betrayed him and then went back to crying.

Catherine walked out of the hospital to find Nathan in tears. She walked over to him to try to comfort him and that is when he looked at her and said with tears in his eyes "he isn't even my father so why does it hurt so much"

"Because he is the closest thing to a father that you have and maybe there is a part of you that feels like he is your father" Catherine explained while hugging him

"I hate him though"

"Nathan just because you hate someone does not mean you can't love them" Catherine explained as she walked him back inside just in time to avoid the rain.
