Nathan got out of bed and stared at his hands for a long time and then realized he had to get ready for school. Nathan was getting ready for school when a sharp pain in his head came in a waves each wave getting worse and it made him drop to the ground holding his head.
"Nathan what's wrong" Catherine asked in panic while running over to him
"I...I....I don't know just started to get a sharp pain. its gone now" Nathan explained while regaining his strength to stand up "come on we are gonna be late for school if we don't leave"
"i'm not worried about school right now Nathan" Catherine said while Nathan was still getting ready "Nathan" she shouted
"what" he asked while rubbing his forehead
"you had claws coming from your fingers your eyes changed during your dream and now you had a headache that made you fall to the floor....im worried about you. Nathan you barely sleep anymore and when you do you get these nightmares an you won't tell me about them. something is going on with you and I wish you would just tell me" Catherine said frantically.
"tell you what" Nathan burst out "you want me to tell you how I have no idea why I am having these dreams or what they even mean or here you go how about this I will tell you how I am scared that the next time I have a dream I am gonna end up hurting you oh wait never mind I already did because apparently I have claws that are sharp enough to scratch you and make you bleed. I will start telling you how I have no idea what is going on with me and that it scares the hell out of me every minute of the damn day. is that what you want to hear" Nathan stood there quietly for a moment and realized he just snapped on Catherine he stood up and walked over to her and grabbed her to hug her and then said "I am sorry I should not have yelled I am just stressed out"
"its ok lets just get to school and then we can deal with what ever is happening to you after school ok" Catherine explained as she grabbed her bag. Nathan nodded and followed her out the door. Right before they got to the school Catherine stopped Nathan and asked "are you gonna be able to keep control while in school"
"yeah school will keep my mind off of everything that is going on"
"ok well I will see you at lunch" Catherine said
"yeah I might be a little late because I have a test to take today and its a pretty long test" Nathan explained to Catherine as they walked into school. Nathan and Catherine went their separate ways to get to class. it was almost 11am and Nathan had medieval history class his teacher Mrs.Fargus was talking about something known as the lost kingdom. Nathan did not pay much attention to it until she was talking about a legend the castle had about a dragon made of gold that could turn into the shape of a human. the dragon was a well respected creature that protected the kingdom from its enemies but one day it just vanished and the kingdom fell into chaos and darkness. Nathan grew interested as she spoke about the legend he listened to every word. Mrs.Fargus continued to say " the dragon or half breed was believed to be the only one of its kind no one knows what happened to the dragon some say he still walks amongst us in human form waiting for the right day to show his true form". Nathan rubbed his chest where his mark was has he grew uncomfortable with what he just heard.
the bell rang and everyone left the room but not Nathan. he stayed in his seat until the class was empty and then walked over to Mrs.Fargus "is there something I can help you with Nathan" she asked Nathan as she was looking down at papers and grading them
"yeah I was wondering if you could tell me more about that legend you were talking about"
Mrs.Fargus looked up at Nathan and said "hmm I didn't think you were paying attention"
Nathan gave a slight smile and responded with "well the legend seems interesting to me I was hoping you knew more on the legend by any chance"
"well I don't know much but there are a few books from our library that you could go check out on the legend" Mrs.Fargus said as she wrote the names of the books on piece of paper and handed to Nathan. as Nathan went to walk out of the classroom she asked "why is this legend so interesting to you compared to all the other ones I have told in my class"
Nathan stopped and waited a moment to speak then he finally said "lets just say that legend might be related to my family" and then he walked out of the class to get ready for lunch.
before Nathan went to lunch he went to the library to find those books. he figured he should get them before anyone else could. Nathan knew that part of the legend was true but he wasn't sure how much of the legend was, he started to make a list of things in his head that were true dragons being real check, dragons looking like humans check, the dragon possibly alive to this very day unsure.
Nathan was looking for the books but he had no luck finding them so he went to the front counter and asked if the library had any of the books on his list. the librarian looked at the list carefully and then said "we should have them in the back let me go check it will be just a moment" Nathan nodded and sat down to wait "here they are" the librarian said as she walked out of the back room carrying 4 books covered in dust "now these books are old so you need to be careful with them"
"I understand ma'am I will take good care of them and thank you for finding them" Nathan said as he went to grab the books from her
" odd for a young man to request some books as old as these" she explained as she went to check them out to him
"its for a project in my medieval history class....anything for that A+ am I right" Nathan lied about with a smirk.
"still just be careful they are old" she warned
before Nathan left he turned around and asked "how old are they"
"well as far as I know they were here when the school first opened in 1964"
"do you know where they came from by any chance" Nathan asked
" Don't really know. I been here for about 20 years now and they been in that back room since I been here until about a week ago someone checked them out"
"Are you able to tell me who"
"yeah just let me look it up on the computer real fast" she said as she started typing on the computer "here we are a Mrs.Fargus checked them out"
"how did she know about the books if they been back there for so long" Nathan said quietly to himself
"what was that" the librarian asked when she over heard him speaking
"Nothing I was talking to myself thanks for the books I will return them in good condition" Nathan explained as we walked out of the library
