February 1814 London
Nora Rutherford was sitting inside her father's study.
"Daddy you know I am going to have to take the trip to Cornwall. I will have to make sure the information we are receiving is top tier."
"I understand Nora dear but the agreement to let your brother serve the crown also was that neither of you would be gone at the same time. Simon is in Italy, so the answer is no."
"But daddy, I am the only one who can retrieve the information and understand it. I have the financial knowledge the others do not have. Mother is just going to have to understand this is for the crown."
"Nora you know I cannot agree with this your mother hates when you children are a way and she frets so."
"I understand that why do you think I am not married yet at the age of twenty-five? She is extremely overprotective."
Glen, laughed at her tantrum one would assume at four and twenty she would have gotten over them. He sometimes considered his nine-year-old daughter Helen, more adult than her. He could not disagree with her. She was right her mother was overprotective, and he had done nothing to correct it this was a much easier course for him. Adelaide loved her children she wanted to keep them with her. He cherished his wife he kept her happy by letting her do with the kids as she wished. When, Nora made her debut seven years ago, she had been extremely popular with the men looking for a wife. She was pretty enough and her position in life was appealing to a title nobleman. Her dowry was sufficent as well. Addie on the other hand had scared every gentleman who showed interest her off. She was determined they would not leave her or their home. He was reprehensible for playing with the girls future happiness for someone else. He told himself her contribution to keeping the crown safe was more prevalent to him than marrying her off and hurting her mother. All this made himself believe because he wanted to uphold the peace. He knew he was a lousy father at least to her, but he was an excellent husband at least he hoped as much. Before, he could dwell on this anymore, there was a knock on the door interrupting them. He couldn't think why they were being bothered he had told William not to disturb them. With a bark of annoyance only a Duke could muster he called out for them to enter.
"Enter."
His man, William opened the door and came in.
"Your grace the Marquis of Wigan's his here to see you."
What the devil was Big B doing there? That was the thought of both father and daughter simultaneously. Holland entered the room and bowed to the Duke and then, took the seat next to Nora.
"What brings you here Holland?"
"I came to plead Nora's case I know the deal we made but I need her expertise. I will call back Simon if I must. Understand I need her to go to Cornwall. I do not know if you understand London may be ruined financially if the news is not substantiated."
"How many people are we talking Holland a few people of the ton?"
"Hundreds, maybe even thousands, it could collapse our economy. Everyone from the upper echelon to the servant class would be affected. This is not something we want to happen if we can help it. I would not ask this of you otherwise. I can not let the British economy to colaps. We must stop this at all cost."
"Holland you know my Duchess is not going to agree with this."
"I came prepared Glen; we can tell her Bailey needs her to accompany her to Cornwall. I will send her with Nora. You know how good Bailey was during her time of service I assure you she is still at the top of her game."
